They are very loud, especially when coupled with an aftermarket backbox.

wots the difference between the pipercross and powertec? also can u adapt the original airbox so that the kit sits almost inside it to help shield from heat?

if your going for an open air matey, then pipercross is spot on cost you bout £90ish though! and yes it will only let out a roar at higher revs or when you floor it, al induction kits are the same!

no you cant adat the airbox to accomodate an induction kit, but if your not bothered about the noise or don't want any noise then buy a replacement filter mate k & n do them i think! but get an induction kit imo beatuiful roar!

The main difference between the three cones that have been talked about are what they are made of.

The K&N 57i is made from Cotton

The Pipercross is made from Foam

and The Powertec is made from Stainless Steel

All three will improve the way the engine rev's plus free up some usefull ponys too, if your looking for all out noise then I would personally would go a cotton cone filter like K&N or Green.

I've had two S/S filters on different cars like a Powertec/Blitz style and was alittle bit dissapointed with the lack of noise but in their defence they do look good (Thats why I bought a second one)

Before you part with your cash take a good look around see whats on the market, compaire prices and Don't forget about eBay, there are some nice looking 'Unbranded' inductions kits at fantasic prices. Sometimes you pay alot for a name!

My mate has a K+N, it's very quiet below 3k but at 3k you can hear it, at 4k it turns really loud all the way to the redline!

I have a K&N 57i Gen 1. As with all of them it only roars really when you floor it, and it roars all the way through second, and is loudest and deeper in third but you obivously get to hear it as much because most roads are 30 so you cant really put your foot down. The higher the gear the deeper the growl is aswell, its really low in fifth

No they won't !!!!

Open induction kits will loose power but have a deeper roar

Enclosed kits will gain small amount of power and have a subtle note to them

Daz, open induction kits are fine if you give them a cold air feed.

With all respect mate your wrong

An open filter will always be an open filter no matter how many or how good your cold air feed is.

Im not saying to dont buy an open air filter im just saying you will loose performance and gain sound !!!!

Ry_B is right, if you give them a cold air feed they will improve performance, as the induction kit is situated at the rear of the engine, away from the manifold etc, so it will be cooler! all this bullspit about open air filter getting hot and warming the air and the car loosing performance is poo. They are designed to stand hot temps. i think pipercross would have thought about it as one of the first things when they built it!

open induction kits actually reduce the cars power (even the standard enclosed filter is better performance wise than an open one) , the only reason for an open one is for the sound it gives.

S34MER
21st August 2006, 16:51
sorry mate but i beg to differ, given a decent cold air feed its a performance enhancing mod!!! can you actually prove it reduces power??

scook

warm air is less dense than cold air (contains less oxygen), the colder the air the more oxygen giving more power , warm air less oxygen = LESS POWER

Clear enough

If they increase power then why have you got an enclosed ???

You did have a PiperX open filter you wanted to swop for my Viper

Warm air isn't what the engine needs just because its got a cold air feed to it dont mean it wont suck in hot air from in the engine bay

correct!!! im not sayin thats wrong, but what i am arguing is that an open air filter doesn't decrease performance if it has an "DECENT" cold air feed!

That is correct, but if you give the cone filter a decent cold air feed it will definitely not loose you any BHP like it would in standard form or with a bad cold air feed.

Now now kiddies, The Teacher is ready to Teach :D:

All sitting comfortable, then we'r begin.

Ok the point about an open cone losin bhp rather than makin extra bhp is a fair point but to be honest thats not the whole story.
If a cone is stuck at the back of a engine bay with No cold air feed and stuck in traffic then Yes pony's will be lost but if the cone is located somewhere cooler say behind a headlight with a decent flow of cold air under accelaration then the extra ablitly to suck in more air even if a little hotter than a standard airbox then the car will rev more freely and even if a few pony's have gone walk abouts it doesn't really matter we'r not talking about race cars here are!

So like most of us are sayin if you cant afford or simply don't Want a enclosed induction kit a Open cone is a worth while mod AS LONG AS it gets what it needs . . . COLD AIR.

Mines a furio, i jus checked the site and is pk120, cheers mate

Edit: i can understand a slight lose of power if its really hot, but givin it a good cold feed will increase bph at higher speed surely? (very slightly) as a performace filter is better than a standard one, but as said by others performace enclosed filters are better. Manufacturers go for the best "cheapest" option as a general rule otherwise everycar would have a pipercross viper filter.

if u want a nice roar for £100 y not just get a 20 maxpower universal 1, save 80 quid and u get a roar, then the 80 can be put to something else, dunno if any1 else has said this as i cant b arsed to read all the posts lol
