Hi guys do you know if its normal that my saxo diesel hovers around 105 degrees celcius while driving? The overheating light never lit but i think its running abit hot to be honest. Coolant is full and bled, When cold it first goes to 60 degrees then stops for a bit then goes to 80 degrees than stops again and then goes to 95-105 degrees and pretty much stay there, fan starts at 110 degrees, i boight a new fan switch as it was faulty. It has markings in it 97-102 degrees but the fan starts at 110 degrees. What you guys think?

you don't get 60 degrees when cold. Temp sensor or gauge is faulty.

No i meant when i start it, i drive for like 10 minutes then rises to 60 degrees and so on till it reaches 100-105 degrees

Check that the fan comes on at an ACTUAL 102 degrees and off at an ACTUAL 97 and ignore the gauge.

It comes on at 110 degrees and stops at around 95 degrees

By the way the gauge is aftermarket, my car has the light only and i installed an adapter in the top radiator hose to read the temperature, maybe the temp in the radiator is lower ?

your gauge is crap --

Jonathancilia
27th November 2017, 10:11
How can you say that ?

because it's not displaying the actual temperature. Get a new genuine part for peace of mind, or leave as it is.

I tested the gauge before i installed it in boiling water it read correctly

Rather than anyone responding with "3/4" etc... What is the actual optimum running temp? in Celsius.. 85-95c?

Jonathancilia

Mine always hovers at 100-105 but she seems happy doesnt complain lol

Your fan switch will have a degree of calibration.

When your fan comes on the switch will be in the range it's rated for.

If it helps, the fan in my last 1.5d (Which I owned for 6 years and over 70,000 miles) NEVER came on. Even when it's hot summer.

My new 1.5d... well I've not had it long but the temp gauge never goes above half. however there's no scale on it.

I wouldn't be worrying about it, the 1.5D suffers badly from oil getting too hot. that'll kill it before hot coolant.

I think your gauge is over-reading a little bit.

Really ? But if driving it for long times only it gets the oil hot ? I never had problems till now, i used 10w40 fuchs semi shnthetic

Is there any manual fan switches that i can install to switch the fan on myself ?

85-90c is normal op temp of engine thats why fan kicks in at 95c

axsaxoman
28th November 2017, 09:21
there is no engine in the world that runs at 100c or more--unless its a steam engine

mybe suggest new expansion tank cap to start with --
at the temps quoted the top hose would be pumped up hard --if not then tank cap is not holding pressure--which would allow water to boil in head
with 20psi water don,t boil till 130c

Jonathancilia

I will try new cap because its cheap anyway

Or maybe i will try another gauge, i have another one that i can use

This is the highest temp the gauge is rising to after lots of driving, its a dragon gauge bought from ebayhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171128/f941fd4e8bf6d98c96d80bd92a6a05ea.jpg

well unless you have an actual dragon under the bonnet, that is indeed rubbish.

Jonathancilia

Haha, I installed amother gauge and see what temperatures will show but the bad news its the same brand, i may have to buy a better gauge

Hi guys it was the stupid gauge at fault now its reading just below and just over 90 degrees thanks guys :)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171128/2398330565f107f1f60c9c0416dee5d5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171128/1df45b2585b2f915c1bb89b79ec6b105.jpg

If it is running at 84 c then you need to change your thermostat as that is too cold--less economy running cool--
should be running at stat temp --thats what its for

Jonathancilia
29th November 2017, 08:58
No it goes up on the 90s as well, then drops and then opens again and so on

That's normal on these engines. I'm on my 4th now.

As said above it will go into the 90's.

Jonathancilia
29th November 2017, 19:37
Yeah, mine goes to 100 sometimes but comes back down instantly and stays in the 90s

The fan only came on once in 2 months that i owned it

oscilating like that shows the stat is not perfect as it is not a switch -- a bit sticky with old age

temp should be stable at stat temp

Jonathancilia
30th November 2017, 10:01
Ok i will change it then

Hi guys i changed the thermostat and expansion tank cap today and it stayed in the area of 90-95 degrees so i say its fixed now, will keep you updated
