View Full Version : I want nitrous

Well ive been saving like a good-un so i can buy all my bits at once and get em put on within the same week and then get the car mapped....anyway!

Ive noticed a few people have been runing 25hp jets on standard engine parts so ive got a few q's;

A; When wired are they legal to leave connected?

B; Im fitting a ported n flowed head, cam & usual breathing stuff - Once this has been mapped and the nos is fitted with, will i need to remap or will the ECU fuel accordingly?

C; I think i could fit it myself but i spoke to a mechanic who said the n20/air/fuel ratio's have to be set up by the pros? But i know a few people who have fitted there own kits...

D; How much would an 11lb bottle cost to refil and how long would it last?

The first bottle wouldn't last very long. There's a guy on the PGAC with a 50shot and he went through his fist lot very quickly. :D

Sorry I can't help with other questions.

50 shot is too high for what im wanting....

i would get it done pro, if the mixture is too high the car could blow up or if the fueling is wrong you could loose power!

should be interesting to see the results! i would get it installed before the remap :y:

a) not sure i have my bottle plumbed in all the time just keep the bottle out of view b) as long as you get a wet nos kit you don't need a re-map coz it puts extra fuel in with it. c) its pritty easy to fit your self just takes time and patience most kits come with the jetting sizes of each hp d) on a 25 shot should last around about 10 mins if its on all the time and around £50 to fill

As above really it isnt worth DIYing it if your not 100% confident as it could cost you a whole new engine!

Yea excellent, do you have any extra safety precautions to prevent the bottle puncturing during an accident?

Also where are the jets plumbed in?

Any questions you have mate go onto the forum here :

Bit of advice too, if you want simple to install kit, that WORKS and works well, give the wizards a shout....

They are TOP systems, got one on my classic mini... a 50 shot, pushes my mini to 158 bhp and 145lbft of torque... which is nice ;)

There kit is the ONLY one not to have a rupture valve (which if your bottle is over filled or the pressure get's too high) will rupture inside your car.. (which you REALLY don't want)

They use something called an sprv valve, which safely releases excess pressure.

There's no need to purge the system either, unlike alot of other kits.

if you need any help/advice drop me a line..

If you want a purge kit, it's actually ALOT cheaper to do it with co2...
(obviously separate from your nitrous kit)

You use the same pulsoids and fittings, but you get it refilled ALOT cheaper... looks exactly the same too...

Ste

Dont be a fuckin nob...... whats the point in that comment?

Why doesnt everyone just buy a faster car??

There would be no point in doing any of the engine mods people do if everyone was that Ready Salted....

before the vts was wrote off i was in the process of sorting out a dry nitrous kit.. that was the reason behind me buying and fitting a fuel/air mixture gauge so i could keep an eye on things.. i also had decided upon a dry kit as it was cheaper and good power was still achieveable.. high octaine fuel is a must when running it tho to prevent knocking...

a) its not illegal

b) no you won't need another remap

c) you didn't ask a question here, that was a statement ;) but the majority of NOS kits can be installed using common hand tools in approximately 3 to 5 hours, although the manuals are very accurate, i would still suggest taking it to somewhere like Wizards of NOS and have it done professionally.

d) as far as "how long will it last" goes? this largely depends on the type of nitrous kit and jetting used. For example, a 125bhp Shot kit with a standard 10 lb. capacity bottle will usually offer up to 7 to 10 full quarter-mile passes. If you onlyuse it in 2nd and 3rd gears, the number of runs will be more. but i couldn't say how muchit would cost to refill one tbh!

My 11lb bottle costs me just over 50 quid to fill..... Just as an idea...

ive got a 11lb shiny bottle and the full kit never been used or fitted

comes with 50bhp shots but it only costs 12 quid to change them

im looking for 390 quid

if you check how much it would actually cost to buy from WON youll see the saving!

i haven't got any safty percautions the bottles mounted in the boot and i only run a 5lb bottle on the road. i've got a puffa jet is threaded into my k&n pipe pointing straight into the butterfly and i've just t'd in to the fuel pipe in the engine bay.

aslong as your insurance knows you have it then its 100% legal, and as its a personal use car and not a goods vehicle you dont need a warning sticker as nitrous is only an oxidising agent

nitrous is illegal to use on the road and its illegal to have it in your car if the bottle is turned on but if your bottle is turned of and the police stop you you will be ok.
it is really easy and straight forward to fit but you are proberly best going for 50 shot on a mini max.
never hit the limiter with gas on either because there is a good chance that you will blow your inlet off.

and i dont think that any insurance company will insure you with nitrous in your car but i might be wrong there could be one out there somewere

you say that but ive read on the wizards of nos website (before it went under construction) that it is totally legal for road use. thats the reason i bought mine as its road legal

sorry but thats a load of pap! its perfectly legal!

why wouldn't it be?

"There is no law which either prohibits or allows the use of nitrous oxide in a road car". In my mind and obviously the the same goes for the manufacturers, if there isn't a law against it then it must be legal.

Obviously you would have to declare it to your insurance company who would gasp at the thought of it.

A couple of the sites i also looked at, went on to explain that a lot of police officers will assume it is illegal and you will get a hard time over it if they see it in your car. But being Saxo drivers most of us used to having a hard time from the police anyway.

I asked a bloke with an MR2 with two nos bottles poking up in his back window (thought he was the ideal candidate)

He said the cops dont mention anything about it when he gets pulled, and his insurance didnt go up a penny declared.....

im a dealer for WON systems and its completly LEGAL as long as your insureance company knows, if you dont declare then it is illegal.
as said adrian flux are one of the few who do cover it, my ax is coverd with them for nitrous use on the road
