View Full Version : 106 1.5 Turbo

I own a Saxo 1.5xd (Mk1 1997) and while I was looking through the scrappies around here I noticed that the 106 1.5 TD (Mk1 1995) looks like the exact same engine, only with a large black box at the rear (inlet manifold) which I am presuming is the turbo.
Im wondering, if at all it would be possible to bolt off / bolt on the Pugs Turbo to the Saxo 1.5XD. Would it be quite that easy or would there be much more to it? ECU / Injectors etc? Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers :y:

im very very very sure it is not a turbo man... if you could get pics that would help :)

The 106 XTD is a 1.5 Turbo, the location is unimportant at this time tho. What I really want to know is if the Turbo unit from a 106 XTD can be bolted onto the Saxo 1.5XD?

im very very sure it isnt man, lol
I used to own a 106 Aztec and if memory serves me right the range was along the lines of XND XTD and something else, same engine, different trim.
I maybe wrong though.

none of the diesel engines in the ax/106/saxo were ever turbo'd. Only the C2s and C1s had the 1.4 hdi lump

What about those electric superchargers off ebay?

What about those electric superchargers off ebay? if you add one to your intake and one to your exhaust your car acts as a jet engine and you gain a lot of power

Then I must apologise and hang my head in shame, thanks for enlightening me though. I'l spread a little rep once im out fo work.
Let me re-jiggle the question then. Is there a small turbo charger that would cause a slight increase in power which can be easily added to the diesel saxo engine? Electric Supercharger for example?

to be honest man, although a very cool project to do, i wouldnt go down that route.
The best thing to do is to tweak the fuel pump to increase the fuelling slightly... this'll need to be matched with a good induction system. Lee Rushdon famous 1.5D had 80hp i believe. 30% improvement over standard.

a proper electric supercharger needs a lot of juice. I read an article about an Evo with one and it had about 4 massive batteries, a huge alternator and it sucked all the batteries dry after about 30seconds of foot to the floor acceleration..

i was talking about an actual turbo kam. lol

Tweaking the fuel pump seems to be the most obvious, and the only real option I have ever been told. But my one concern is the fuel consumtion. Obviously, ensuring more fuel is being pumped into the engine means that my mpg will drop. Is the performance gain that good that it will be worth the loss in miles?
Also, how easy an operation is it. I have heard its a screw you simply turn and jobs done?
Cheers again

Belt driven ftw lol!!!!! never knew they actually did proper leccy ones!

for general driving i doubt they'd be a significant mpg drop, only when flooring the pedal would you notice the engine gobbling all those precious hydrocarbons at an increased rate. A 30% improvement in engine power is good by anyones books, even better knowing that it can be done for free.
its a screw somewhere! lol, i remember reading about it in Diesel Car mag but was never interested at the time... I will write in at some point and ask although I probably wouldnt do such a mod until after uni.
You could always ask them i suppose!

Can you possibly suggest a good relatively cheap induction kit choice for teh XD? As I have no idea really what would work best.

A whole 80bhp?
Sorry that made me laugh.

cloud go eat your own ass.
think of it as percentages... for a driver being given and extra 30% hp regardless of the final output... its a noticeable difference.
the derv isnt that much behind a furio. give it an extra 30% and it'll surprise a few vtrs.

I remember someone saying theyd been to france and had spoken to a few scrapyards for parts, and were asked by each of them if it was a turbo. He came back, asked around and *apparently* there was a 1.5 td available on the continent. Never checked it out myself.

80bhp can be alot if you can drive.
150bhp can be a little if you cant.

Agree with that totally..
My little westy flew past a hyundai coupe F2 edition at donington for example!
Also i will take any lightly modded VTR or standard VTS on round there too...
People will laugh and mock me but Ryan took on VTS's at Llandow in his std VTR with big brakes..

I chased a 182 with a crap driver..stayed with him easily enough in the corners but the straights were another matter..:(
LOL @ the testicle edit!!:p

after a few laps mid afternoon he waved my by, due to me braking later and travelling faster in the corners, he wasnt pulling much on the straights, i just didnt have the grunt to get by.

I’d definitely love to see that 80bhp engine. I don’t want to “kill” anybody dreams, but I think its impossible to have so much power in an normal aspirated 1.5 diesel engine with a normal mechanical fuel injection. A Seat Ibiza 1.9 SDi with electronic fuel injection and some remap will have less than 75bhp and its an 1.9 engine. A friend of mine has a Fiat Punto TD 70 with a hybrid turbo and some upgrades to de mechanic fuel injection and it has 90 bhp with a turbo… I don’t believe in it until I see the graphic of the dyno to see if the test was made correctly…

The test doesn’t have what I want :( . The graph doesn’t have the power losses… If you don’t know, if during the final of a dyno test, it’s calculated the power losses in the transmissions, gear box, etc… If during this fase you press a little on the brakes, this will be added to power losses that will be added to the wheel power to know the engine power. In a simple 1.1 engine with 60bhp, you can have a power of 200bhp if you what. This is the technique that many persons that makes remaps make to “satisfy” their clients…

seat ibiza 1.9 diesel also comes with 160bhp and can be remapped to ~200bhp. Even the 130bhp vag tdi engine can be at ~180bhp for a few hundred pounds of remap

This is correct..My bro had an Audi A3 sport 1.9 TDI which had the PD130 engine..
Was remapped to 180 bhp and had well over 300nm of torque, near 400 actually iirc.. and it really was capable of playing with Civic Type R's and Clio 182's..:)
Proper sleeper! LOL
