chances are the ECU Will be locked, if the engine came from a KEypad immobilised car then get hold of the keypad immobilisor put the code in, remove the keypad and your laughing the ecu is now an unlocked ECU, but if the immob was related to the key (about 2000 or so i think) then your ecu will most likely be locked,
Also i would say that im 96% sure you will need to splice the looms togeather otherwise your dials wont actually work on your car and possibly your lights etc etc, and it also wont start because of that as nothing will prime the fuel pump and you wont get a spark, Loom splicing can be done for about £80 if you require this, PM me and ill give you the contact number for the guy who did mine. and i actually have an unlocked ECU for a blacktop engine for sale for £70
hope that helps
