Default Trackdays - Wheel Queries

Ok so tbh Ive never really done a real trackday. And Ive been lately reading
up on whats needed for a full day of track madness.

Im undecided if I should take my Superlegs on the track, if Im out there all
day and the brakes are cooking and Im going round bends with the tyres
all over the shop, I guess I risk damaging them.

But what cheap alternatives are there for some simple track rims, Ive seen
some wheels on Ebay in the past, but atm theres nothing cheap with decent
tyres. Cyclones would be nice, the Speedline packages from 106parts come
with no tyres.

Also another consideration was I dont want to be running spacers. I noticed
that the OZ Ultraleggeras come with an offset of 18 and would be great
for track wheels. And I can get them with tyres from a local shop:

The ideal set I would want would be these Speedline Corse ones:

A set of them went dirt cheap the other week, I soo missed out

Or do you reckon my OZs would be fine, Ive heard stories about people eating
through like 2 sets of tyres in a day. The tyres on the OZs are probably worn
down half way now. I dont think they would last long on track lol..

Any advise, mucho apprieco!

cyclones would be good, duno about weight.

speedlines would be awesome, but can be pricey.

The speedlines when for £128 I think on Ebay, no major marks and with tyres!
I was a fool not to bid.

I was thinking Cyclones were a good choice as they would be cheap but after
looking on Ebay they dont seem cheap as I thought lol!

Trackday is in Dec so got plenty of time to keep an eye out by then.

15s on now, would be getting 15s for track. Cant go lower than 15s due to
the 4 pots. Also Im 99.9% sure 205 wheels wont fit over the wilwood caliper
too

Im tempted just to buy a set of them speedlines, but that would be engine
work £££ spent then.

Hmmm. Do you reckon I could just use my Superlegs for the day on these tyres?
Or should I not risk it?

If you are only going to be a few track days a year i dont see the point in buying another set of wheels just to use on the track.Your wheels you have will be prefect as they are 15s and oz wheels are pretty light aswell.Just get a new set of tyres after you kill the set you have got at the moment. You are only doing track days as fun so its not like you will be needing to change your tyres in one session.Hope this helps.

Ive heard many people say now that during a whole trackday they have gone
through a set and a half of tyres.

My worry is that any damage to the Superlegs could be dangerous as the
wheels are now discontinued. If I shagged some other rims up then I wouldnt
feel to bothered if you know what I mean.

Quite a few people I know have track rims sets so they dont spoiler there
"show" rims. I agree the OZ wheels were great for silverstone and rockingham.
But tbf they werent full blow track events at all! 30mins isnt long enough.

Cheers for the advise tho mate, something to look into for sure. One thing is
tho, if I can get a good deal on wheels AND tyres, then it might be worth it.

Buy a new set of tyres before the trackday (like a few days in advance have them fitted) then wear them down on track & if they survive then use em on the roads untill they die there natural death, then nip to the garage & have your old half worn tyres put back on untill there done?

See I was thinking that, but a decent set of new tyres would be around £150 Im guessing? That could be £££ towards a cheap set of wheels and tyres?

To many decisions! Anyone wanna let me their rims?

Chances of getting a cheap set of rims with good (and i mean performancewise) tyres?

Not likely i'd say. Do it the new tyres way!

I dont see why you are worried about damaging your wheels by doing a track day they will just harm your tyres not your wheels.I do see what mean but you should just get a new set of tyres put on before the day and swap them back over when they are worn out as said above. It will be alot cheaper than buying another set of wheels just to use on a track, but its up to you at the end of the day mate.

Reasons I want some run about wheels are:
1 - my OZ rims run 25mm wheels spacers
2 - stupidly hot brake dust can bake onto the wheel causing slight damage to the surface
3 - if they "did" somehow fly off, finding a replacement would be near impossible
4 - The car will be tracked quite regularly so imo a spare set is ideal.

I will look into it, just wanted a few views. Thanks for your help guys.

*Superleggras not ultra dude.

Rushy stop being a women.. I drive faster than you and I don't worry about track wheels. Get yourself a cage..

Basiclly -

If a wheel falls off anyway kiss goodbye to your car if your hitting speeds like you should be on track.
Baked on dust, this is why we have good wheel sealents. Just coat the wheels up beforehand.
Spacers.. pah I have never had problems and neither did david when he went round nurburgring with my wheels on. Im pretty sure he went a damn site faster than me as well.

You worry too much man.., tyres can be replaced. It's all part and parcel of driving your car on track. You would have to replace the tyres on the track wheels anyway.. your just wasting money
