Default PH1 Newman Cams

Hi.

Has anyone get any experience or info regarding the PH1 Newnam cams? From reading on their website it says they can run on the standard ignition system and are a very mild cam, which tbh suits me

Any idea how much extra power these would be over the standard cams?

I know a lot of people will suggest goin for PH3's, but I want to keep things simple!

Cheers!

Have you got a link to them mate for more details?

I didnt think the PH3s were that bad? Similar to the 708s? Or am I wrong?

Those camshafts wouldn't be much different from the stock ones. Avoid these... End of.

i don't think he's saying the ph3's are bad, just that he doesn't want them, something abit more mild/friendly i guess.

as toad said mate, ph1's would be very mild and maybe not far from standard, if you want something mild but with some go, conside ph2's (one ph1 and one ph3).

Ph1 are ok if you want to keep your ecu stock. You can get 140-145hp with breathing mods and this cams. So i think it's not bad.

do you want to see much power from the car, or not really?

if you don't - don't get any form of cam
if you do - get pj3's or 708's

It's pointless. Even the 708s are not a wild cam. PH1s are like a lame dog, and should be put down! lol

I'm just seeing what my options are at the moment, and yeah, I'm not looking for huge power. Also, if I did go for PH3's I'd then need a remap, which is going to be another £450, plus a drive to Chipwizards etc.

I can fit the cams for free and if they give me an extra few ponies, make the engine a bit more perky then that'll be fine for me.

Toad I appreciate your input but I'm not looking for large amounts of BHP. Basicaly I want a bit more power but still driveable on standard ECU.

Cheers.

if thats all your after mate, then the best option for you is to get a good filter, eg BMC or raceland/green enclosed scoop, 4-2-1 or 4-1 manifold and a full system, magnex, ashley or similar, or even the supersprint race system.

will get you a few extra bhp, give you that nice sound and what not, and at no expense of a re-map or cams.

Agreed.

There's no logic to using those PH1 camshafts if you are already using stock ones. If you don't adjust the ECU mapping, then you won't gain any power top end, as you will require more fuel to achieve this anyway...

Yeah jeeves these will also be going on with a manifold, de-cat and enclosed induction kit (gonna keep the standard exhaust tho ) and I wa shoping these (cams) might be the icing on the cake.

It would be good to have a comparison to the standard cam figures if anyone knows them.

Cheers.

Just a question- on the site the ph3 ones apparently don't run on standard injection? What does this mean exactly? Is it refering to standard inlet? I thought you could just put them in, change the timing belt, get it remapped and thats sufficient...? If anyone can clear that up would be good...

Not the best description is it? But all camshafts for the VTS with a similar spec say the same. You will require the fuelling to be a adjusted, i.e., the ECU re-mapped, or a standalone ECU used and mapped... But you can still run them with standard inlet, no probs.

Ahh brilliant Toad, cheers. Just that I'm getting the PH3 and was under the impression they will just need to be mapped and then used full stop, saw that and heart skipped a beat lol. Thanks, yeah for sure they will need a proper re-mapping to alter fueling etc, thats fine, so long as i don't have to start changing all the internals- I'm just a student and I'm scrounging what pennies I find to fund the camshafts upgrade

Thanks again.

No worries.

Depending on mileage, I would look into new valve springs at the same time. Make sure you have a performance manifold and de-cat exhaust system too. You will also need to scrap the stock air intake system for a performance filter one, like a Green filter or something similar.
