Post 26: Headgasket gone?
I fixed my handbrake today but whilst doing so I noticed:
A ton of oil in the drivers side wheel arch:
and around the oil cap was a small amount of white, however I think in this pic it's not very clear as it was just after a journey.
What could the wheel arch be? And the white in the cap wouldn't be the headgasket gone would it?
How much am I looking at for repairs?

the oil by your wheel arch looks like its actually grease from the cv boot that has gone really thin. and the clip off the cv boot has come off. i think that is that problem. the white stuff on your oil cap could be down to the car heavy breathing. check breather pipes clean them out. It could also be headgasket. How many miles has the car done?

I tried to get the clip back on but I couldnt get it to budge it kept sliding back The car has now clocked over onto 69,877. I'll need to take the car to the garage about the grease? Where are the breather pipes located?

they normally go from rocker cover to the inlet pipes that go from your air filter. or to the throttlebody. check the oil on the dipstick. How does it look? if that is all gluggy an creamy i think your oil is gettin contaminated by water so yes headgasket would be gone then

defo cv boot is fudged. the oil cap, i noticed this on mine. Think it could be like condensation or detergents in the oil. Does the car drive oddly?

Cheers for the advice, the oil in the dipstick is absolutely fine, could well be...

Replacement boots aren't too expensive, just hassle to do really. Think halfords sell them.

defo the cv boot and i recomend getting it done asap or it will damage the cv joint running it without any grease for lubrication. and the cap could just be condensation if you are only doing short distances in the car and its not getting time to warm up fully.
hope this helps

Is it an extremely awkward job? Could imagine it being so (location) I know someone changed their driveshaft on a road trip in minutes before heading off again, and all was fine.

Any hints?
On reading tons of driveshaft threads, it seems an easy job to do. Costing around £50 for the shaft, (from citroen?) and not being too hard to fit. Is it easy enough to do on Axle stands? Can anyone with previous experience with driveshaft replacement throw me some hints I don't really want to be charge nearly £200 for a driveshaft+labour at my garage

ONLY £35! shitroen just told me it'd cost me £107 for a brand new one, but theyd need to order it (I'd have to wait ages, and need my car asap)
Rang my local garage they told me the boot joint they can do for £55, So I'm getting the haynes for christmas and hopefully saving some money at the moment but booked in for 8am in the morning on sat lol and girlfriends staying the night.

white stuff on your oil cap could be built up condensation if the car has been lying for a while?or water got in if youve had it of while raining?if not could be looking at a head gasket there mate
