Does it put you off..
Were talking about getting new cars at work, and what everyone would consider.
With the rising cost of petrol, road tax, insurance ect
Would you consider downgrading in terms of engine wise?
Tbh I dont think I could. I like having a bit of power (hense why im getting a bigger engined car) But I wouldnt go back down to a 1.1 or 1.2 as I use my car far too much for long journies and dont like dorddling (sp).
Obviously it depends how much you love/use your car aswell as being able to afford it.
But whats everyones opinions?

I went from the 2.5 bmw down to a vtr again, first time ive had a drop in engine size and you do miss the power.
But then you go to the petrol station and stick a tenner in and the needle jumps in the saxo whereas it hardly moved in the bmw lol, so that softens the blow of losing power! Plus the saxo is more fun to drive!

depends on cash,. if i won the lottery i'd go silly and get a plane lol
but if i was a bit skint i'd have to down size.
i know ill flog the VXR for sure when get a house, just to save a few pennys like.

I don't think I could go less in power... VTR doesn't even feel fast anymore, so I can't imagine going to something less...

If prices continued to rise to a much higher price, may have to think about it. Wouldn't be too worried in a lack of power, I just pootle around as it is, hahaha.

personally i'd go deisel rather than getting a smaller petrol engine. that way you can still have good performance and economy.

depends on what 1.4,
theres Mini's with 1300cc naturally aspirated engines that'd nail something like a Clio Sport, Fiesta ST etc all day long.
I dont think I'd like to change back to a 1.1 personally, I'd happily drop down to a Furio or something if need be.

I'd buy another Bike as they are cheaper on fuel/tax/insurance, for me that would be more sensible than downgrading on power! Worst case though no lower than a 1600 as anything lower struggles to overtake/get up hills!! Lol

Agreed mate, seems like the only cost effective way of getting power will soon be bikes. I do often think about getting rid of mine, being a Uni student and all, makes running a 2.2 quite a chore, but I'm a sucker and love it to shreds, so for now I'll weather the storm.

My sights have always been 'Aim low, stay low and you won't be disappointed'. I'd happily go down to even less power (if that is actually physically possible - might mean downgrading a step to one of those lawnmower jobbies) if I wanted to.

I think even a lawn mower would beat your power, there's more power in a strimmer than in your tractor (and vipers)
I downgraded, and yes the only thing I miss about the VTS is that little bit more of a kick, but better fuel economy and cheaper road tax is always good!

Ive never owned anything bigger than a 1.6 and tbh atm I dont really want to. The VTRs quick enough for our roads and ok on petrol so Im happy

1.1s have their comical purposes,
I enjoyed the occasional hack in my missus' old Saxo.

Well I went from a VTS to a 2.0 Focus which was a step down in terms of power, but didn't bother me because of how nice the quality was.
Now I have HDi 307 so yeah, it's a downgrade again but there is enough power when I need it, cruises at 80 on the motorway - insurance is cheaper, tax is cheaper and fuel lasts longer so that doesn't bother me.
