Turbo or supercharger????
Right then guys not been on for a while but i now have no cars at all after selling the cupra an need a new project.
I gunna build an nice engine but do i Turbo or Charge it???
Pro an cons really not on how they work but how on what problems i'm gunna have.
As from my past knowin with these people running big power were losing charger belts alot so kinda thinking of turbo.
Will be aimin for around 300-350bhp so an info will be helful.
cheers craig

Belo!
Boo bould buy a burbocharger.
*ahem*....
There's a guy on here (Sophia_Bush) who has turbo'd a few cars... have a looksie. I say turbo.
Although if you wanted to supercharge it has been done, find an Eaton M45 (the unit from the old Mini Cooper S) and get ready to spend a long, long time fitting it. You'll need a smaller pulley on it for a start, and a lot of custom pipework. Ideally if you run it at 8psi you won't need to retard the ignition timing, and the car will run really well once mapped for it all to work.

There is a lad on ssc forum with a turbo'd 106. Looks amazing and i think it goes pretty well. Same kit as that white turbo vts (saxodaffy?) on here - the kit is imported from Holland fromdp motorsport (widely regarded as the best you can buy) but its not cheap.
Both have pros and cons tbh. Turbo can give higher gains but will stress the engine more when it comes on boost. Supercharger is smoother delivery.
For that much power also, you will need to think about gearboxes and how to actually get the power down

ther are alot of pro's and cons to both some points for both that i can think off the top of my head hope there right tho and other people have suggested
turbo:
- turbo lag
- high strain on engine and box when the boost comes on
- getting the power down
- management
charger:
- uses some power from the engine to spin up
- smoother power delivery
- management
also think of brakes and suspention
There are quite a few ppl who have both set up on here and on saxosportsclub sites have a look for a few project threads and a read through there problems and what not that might help you figure out whats needed. i have been looking at this for quite a long time now and still cant decide charger turbo or bodie's as they each have ther own good points.
as said the charger from teh cooper is/can be used wich is a good start and i think sybez or sommers (from ssc) cant remeber wich one used it. Toger13 on ssc has a good set up from DP ( http://www.dp-engineering.nl/EN/ ) and personally would get stuff from them if to go turbo route as they have an amazing manifold it's a work of art
ther aint much info on it there but there are lots of places to read up on for general info and rough prices.
carworx
GMC
DP
hope that help and any wrong info please correct me.

supercharger mate, they run cooler, the car will be more driveable and now you can get better tensioners to stop the belt slipping.gmc are going to do a 6 rib belt s stronger aswell. thats what im doing and after weighing up every aspect i chose s/c.

Turbo's also use engine power to drive them - effectively using BHP to force the gas through the turbine.
Actually, a Turbo is more efficient.

Yeah no about all the pro's an cons etc just really after advice on how long they can last, as said about the belt slippage on the charger. Didnt sybez or sean off ssc use the new gmc 6 rib belt an still had problems???
Have thought about another bodied one but think i'm gunna go boost time time for a change.

im going the GMC supercharging way!
John has turbod in the past, but turned to supercharging basically because its less hassle to live with.
ring him up and have a chat with him and ask him (apart from the obvious potential customer side of it) if he were you, what would he do.
he will spend a good 20 mins giving you the reasons why turboing is worse that supercharging.
at the end of my convo with him.....you will begin to tell yourself....im going to supercharge it
worked on me anyway lol

yes but with sybez and sean were both over revving their chargers quite a lot wich doesnt help.. i think if you chose the right pulley and rev limit etc you wont have any problems.
