Bilstein Group N's Against B8's
Heard a few people now say get the B8 rears with group N fronts as it over dampens the rear.
Cant find the thread where it was explained.
Would someone care to enlighten me to how true this is.
Kam does the kits and the word round the camp fire was that the group n kit comes with the b8 rears. Far as i can see does the group n's with the group n's.
And b8's with the b8s.
Its a lot cheaper for the b8's but have my heart set on the Group N's. So possibly cheaper if getting b8 rears.

i think gmc used to do a "grp n kit" with b8 rears and grp n fronts....
i heard that grp n's are too much for a std rear bar.
but if you have uprated (22 or 23mm) torsion bars (or plan to) then get them.

So should be looking for group n fronts and b8 rears which is what i already thought.
But now thinking its alot cheaper to run the b8 fronts than the group n fronts, so how do the fronts compare?

what springs are you using/planning to use??
i love the way my sax handles (150lb faulkners, group n shocks all round, 22mm torsion bars and 25mm rear arb )
i cant compare, as never used b8's.

Sounds like greensaxos springs are a bit soft imo.
Steve, bare in mind the 35mm faulkners from kam lower more like 40mm, so the 45mm ones will be lower again. If using kams faulkners then i would recommend b8s, its what i have.

45mm faulkners with group n's will lower it as stated as they are a hard shock.
Probably a different kettle of fish on b8s as they are softer.

GrpN rear dampers are definitely not up to damping 22mm bars efficiently, so i'd say 21mm bars perhaps.
They are designed for standard ones i think, bilstein just market them as "stiffer version"
The gas pressure in bilsteins is the same, so ride height is unaffected. Also the grpN fronts are made for harder springs, so they aren't much use with softer springs.

The bilstein group N are a good damper and actualy work well with a number of different rates - used my front with 150 and 250 lb springs and was great with both.
The rears are fine on standard bars and better than the B8 as stiffens up a bit.

so group n rears or b8 rears need more input lol
running it with 24mm rear arb and standard 19mm torsion bars.
group n fronts with gmc 40mm springs which are 160lbs iirc.
Drove my mates car on standard bars and 20mm arb with group n front and rears with gmc 40mm springs.
handles awesome tbh
Anyone know wtf s3 b8 rears are lol
Just cant decide what rears to get.
People say they over damping the rear, but feels fine to drive tbh.

The rear dampers B8/B6 are 30% uprated over standard.
We sell the Proper Group N rear units - these are stiffer still and have a greater oil capacity to stop them overheating under hard use.
