I can highly suggest Halfords Tyre Shine (£5 in a spray on bottle). Its been on my car for a week, driven miles and its still so shiny!
Also - NANO TECH Wax. This stuff is SOOOOO good, i swear buy it. About £8 again. Last about 2 weeks and makes awesome water beads and brings the car so shiny.

Surprised no one has mentioned this but DONT USE THE SPONGE!!
Get a microfibre wash mitt, wont damage the paint as much.
Also 2 buckets, one with soapy water for washing and one with clean warm water to rinse the wash mit in before putting it back in the soapy bucket.

Autoglym is good and halfords have it on 3 for 2 at the mo.
Get a good wash mitt too to replace the sponge, also a waffle weave towel from poorboys is very handy, both are about £10 each
