Renault 5 GT Turbo
Hi people
Bit of a random post, but has anyone on here had a renault 5 gt turbo?
The reason I ask is am thinking about having a weekend fun car and like the idea of a retro 80's hothatch and the 5 is top of the list.
Just interested in people opinions or are 5's more hassle than they are worth?
Cheers
Salty

Id love one . I was thinking the same as ryan. It will be that they 'melt' their turbo's and that the eat head gaskets!!
Well cool cars, there is an old guy that comes into my work with and untouced one. Its grey with orange stickers. Its soo cool. But it has towbar.

The engines are meant to be very easy to work on and great for someone with any mechanical knowlege.
You tend to only get the big problems it seems when winding the boost up for no reason or chasing massive power and not doing it properly.
Alot have been abused badly and thats externally aswell as the engines.

I had one years ago, my first quick car. Loved it even though I bought a snotter. Get a good one and just look after it and it'll be fine.

Ive had one, personally wouldnt have one as a full time car as they can be tempermental....... if its only gonna be a weekend car get one, you will love it...
Make sure you check the usual around the engine etc etc... and also when driving in second gear, dip the clutch and let it back out to see if it pops out of gear, a common problem but an easy enough fix

My Dream Car...
Really want one!
Get an uprated headgasket and some quality cooling system and the problems should go away shouldnt they?
I would use it as a weekend car too!

just sold my raider which i had for one year and built from standard
used mine as weeknd car.
there are weak points in the car like fuel pump relays head gaskets and stuff
the main thing is make sure it feuling for the boost
alot of people turn the boost up a wear stuff down like heads id buy one of an enthusiast thats set up properly
however the driveability and the likeability factors outweighs the cons
great cars to drive serious around twistys made me smile
they are really appreciated by young and old for their quirkyness
standard brakes are wank so make sure you get one with upgrades or you'll land yourself in trouble
if you need any info ive had engines in out and alll about so just feel free to pm me
