Default 10w-40 engine oil vtr

my oil in my 2000 vtr needs topping up so went to halfords and they said I would need the 10w-40 oil, just making sure this is correct before putting it in my car later?

Many thanks

I got the part synthetic one cause the bloke in halfords said that's what I needed. What's the difference?

You want 5w40 if getting fully synthetic. Ive not seen 10w40 fully syn before, most of that grade is semi-synthetic..

Id just top up with 10w40, then maybe think about fully synthetic next oil change?

Gøod quality 10w40 semi synth is fine.
Change it regualy and you wont have any problems at all.
Also use a good filter
