machine polishing help
I'm looking into buying a machine polisher to correct my paintwork but don't know much about them.
I've looked on Detailing world but still don't understand half of it.
what is the difference between a porter cable and a rotary polisher?
Also what polish and pads would be good to get swirl marks out?
i have heard about all this cutting compound stuff and cutting pads but dont understand them.
Any advice recommendations on a machine polisher and polishes and pads?
Cheers

Porter cable is an orbital, this means the pads isnt constantly rotating, this means its safer for people to use as you cant burn your paint.
Rotary polishers constantly spin round, i would recomment these to someone with lots of experience as you can burn paint etc with one of these.
I personally use a meguairs g220 orbital,
I use sonus sfx pads, sfx1 for swirl removal, sfx2 for final polishing, sfx3 for waxing and sealant.
Polishes, i use the menzerna range, and recently tried chemical guys all in one, gives and excellent finish and it contains a sealant which is good.

cheers guys, ive seen thaat guide before but didnt have time to read it fully.
Do you use them for waxing also? I would wash, dry, clay the car, then polish it with porter cable then polish by hand then wax by hand.
is it easier to use the PC for all of it? won't that cut into the clear coat even more?

Wax by hand if you prefer, i sometimes do it just depends on time,
Polish, i always use the machine, it gives a better even finish.

I wouldnt use the power gloss though as that stuff is evil! It is really abrassive and takes the shine off the paint.
How bad is your paint work? I doubt you will need anything more than menzerna intensive polish. I corrected mine using menz final finish 106

That was the cheapest of the menzerna range lol.
paintwork is excellent, its just the swirls.
will the intensive polish remove the swirls?

thankyou very much for your help
one last question - how long do the pads last (single use or 10 uses)?

You should get 4 or 5 times use out the pads if looked after an cleaned properly.

You need to wash the car again after claying, before polishing
