any ideas wot this could be sometimes when i go to switch my vtr off even when then key is fully turned to off and pulled the car still trys to run it strugles but trys only for about 1 or 2 seconds and the ignitions lights are still there but very dim ?

Sounds like short some were in your wireing for your ignition bud...........seen this once before on few mk1 vtr"s.......

wiv you sayin it was badley earthed my wires on my battery was a bit lose couple of weeks ago tighten them up but could of cum lose again maybe ohwell simple if if that i hope will check in bit

Here is the problem ..............
Your sterio take it out if its after market as this often causes ignition problems .....found out to my own cost

Check that the batt live and igniton live are not the wrong way round and the sterio <yellow & red>
shold be yellow to yellow red to red not mixed

may be could that. put few cd players in before with wire to wire no plugs etc but this one was brand new and just pluged straight in and worked so didnt look if it was colour to colour could be not exactly right though cause the memory doesnt stay on the sterio so that must not be in the right place either?
