Very Difficult Situation (crime related)
I don't often post in this section but I really need some help! It's a bit of a long one so bear with me..
A few months ago my girlfriend moved in with me and at the same time my house mate who works with me moved away for 6 weeks to live/work elsewhere. She intended to come back after this period so we charged her half rent and let her keep stuff in her room. A few weeks after my girlfriend moved in the was a robbery and only a few things were stolen - all belonging to my girlfriend. Her laptop in it's bag with charger etc (also in the bag was her Sony camera with it's case) and her mp3 player. My girlfriend came home to find the window open and some shit from the shelf scattered into the kitchen sink. The police came round and looked at the scene, said there was no footprints on the outside wall, inside, and the only fingerprints were later found to be mine. None of my stuff was touched, we assumed it was too shabby/they didn't hang around long enough to find my DSLR etc.
She had no insurance so no claim was made and we forgot about the whole thing. My work mate later claimed to have come back to pick up some stuff that day, seen the window open but not realised that there had been a break in.
A couple of months have passed but on Saturday my girlfriend was cleaning up outside in the shed and found her camera case and Sony memory stick adapter in the house mates possessions. We were gutted as we've all been getting on so well and didn't know how to tackle it so went to the Police so that they could at least search her shit to see if anything else was around.
They interviewed her and she has no explanation. She said that her friend found the camera and case in her car one night when she was driving drunk people around after a party. She thought that one of the girls had left it there and tried to find the owner with no luck. They asked her where the camera was and she said she left it with the case but it's nowhere to been seen.
The Police are convinced it was her and trying their best to press charges. My girlfriend is distraught and also believes it was her but wishes it wasn't. I was also convinced but spoke to my house mate today for the first time since the Police have been involved and she seems very sincere and upset by it all. She accepts that she will probably be charged and fined, and doesn't blame us for going to the Police. She also said that in the same poisition she wouldn't believe it either.
I've known her since christmas and lived together since March. We've always got on very well and she seems like a decent honest person. Her Dad is also a prison warden. She doesn't seem to have any money/drug problems although we aren't sure of her past and there are some rumours flying around work.
Obviously I want justice to be done, equally I don't want the wrong person to be charged. It seems pretty clear cut from an outside perspective, but when one of you're best mates looks you straight in the eye, balling her eyes out and says "I didn't do it", it's hard not to believe them.
I hope to god that she can prove she didn't do it and this will all be forgotten, but somehow I don't think the cops will buy it, and I don't know if my girlfriend will tell them not to press charges. She is still 'living' with us althought we've been avoiding her whilst the Police got their shit together and talked to her.

Thats a terrible situation to be in Fredward but at the end of the day you havn't even known this girl a year, you dont really know her, and couldn't possibly trust her 100%. I never trust anyone, it's a shame to have to think like that but you can only really trust your close family.

She will get fuck all, they have a scheme for first offenders who aren't likely to offend again. Still it's a record though.

Tbh mate, it's not really a difficult situation.. you've already acted an called the police. If you had of posted this saying i don't know whether to call the police or not, then yeah. But whats done is done, the police have to have sufficient evidence to prosecute. If she's found guilty then thats that.

The bitch did it simple as and should be fucked over for it.
I was living in shared accomodation last year and in July we had a so called break in. I had been out at work all day and returned at 11:30pm to find that my room door and my other house mates room door had been smahed in. I had several 1k's worth of stuff stolen.
When I got in at 11:30, the couple who lived in one of the room had apparantly returned at 5:30 and noted the break in and had not reported it to the police. They said they where waiting for me to get in, as they didn't know what I had in my room. Apparantly a window had been left open in the kitchen and yet no finger prints or foot prints where found on the surfaces.
Don't believe the bitch is all I'm saying, as anyone can tell a good convincing story and if she knew you had been broken in surely she would have known what was stolen..............

That sounds like a pretty shit situation tbh.
I would never under estimate someone's ability to lie.
What are the rumours flying around at work?
What was your g/f's view/opinion of her before this?

Girlfriend liked her and she's always seemed a righteous person, I don't think she had the capiacity to do it her self, but I do believe that she was involved, and that she probably didn't gain anything from it. She probabaly had a guy with her who convinced her to turn a blind eye. She's told us before that she knows drug dealers etc. The camera was probably left in her car when the person realised that it was pretty fucked and not really worth anything.
We are going to confront her tonight and try and get the truth out of her. We wont believe that she had nothing to do with it, she's obviously covering for someone who she is scared of. The fact of the matter is that she will lose her job if she's convicted of theft/burglary. Hopefully she will fess up. She will be an emotional wreck as I told her not to come home while my girlfriend was around and that I'd talk to my girlfriend first as she is very angry. Her parents also broke up this week so hopefully she wont be able to bear having this on her consience as well.

So the camera case from the camera that was stolen, and the memory stick that was stolen with the laptop was found where? ('In her things'?)
It is definitely your girlfriends camera case and memory stick right? Exactly the same, any data left on the stick? And marks/serial numbers on the case/memory stick?

The camera case and the memory card adapter was found in her posessions, these were both together in the hosue when stolen, but it's not actually a memory card, just an adapter to put the Sony memory card into a laptop card reader port. The housemate isn't denying that it's my girlfriends stuff, which I thought she would when she spoke to the police.. She just denies taking it and doesn't know how it ended up in her posession. It's pretty clear cut I know.. Just need to be emotionally detached from the situation otherwise I'll fall for for her b.s.

Well we've been mates for a while so of course I like her. I was mad when I found out but having her sit in front of me crying her eyes out of course I felt sympathy for her. Will hopefully get it sorted soon..
