On my way to work this morning, just as i was due to exit the motor way i started to hear this almighty rubbing, grinding, scrapping noise it seemed to be comming form the rear passenger side, i thought oh S*i% that doesnt sound healthy at all! i slowed right down from 60 to 30 & it was still there! so i gave it a little stick & it eased off! carried on driving, no noise then it juat started again! grinding, scrapping harsh kinda noise, gave it some stick & eased off! as i was comming into work it started again but wouldnt ease off this time....! i could also hear a very high pitched squeeking noise with intermitent squeeking, kinda like a fluttering squeek, this was at the same time as the harsh grinding noise....
any ideas wot it could be!?
hope you can help, i need to sort this asap...
cheers guy & gals

jack the car up put something under the front wheel to stop it rolling, leave the handbrake off and check for play in the wheel, could be a dead wheel bearing

no, i was thinking along the lines of bearings! or the likes just want ppls oppinions or weather theyve has this happen at all before... its annoying my car always seems to cry for help on a Sunday!!!
Do you think its worth using my RAC cover & getting it looked at before attemping to limp it home, home is about 10miles away....!

they have ben & gone, he jacked her up both front & rear (oh err mrs) quick drive down the road & all is well, nothing found at all now play in the wheels to suggest bearings have gone, no knocking, scrapping or otherwise probimatic noises... apart from a small diff wyne, he was very impressed with how healthy she sounded at 106.5k! "like new" was his comment....!
Im still not happy or sure all is ok tho... think i will jack her up later & play wiv the caliper, lil WD40 & see if it happenda again!
ideas pls... this has intreeged me now....! you would think a load noise liek it was has an obvious cause....

i thought bout the stone theory, but it wasnt a sharpe scrapping stoney noise! more rubbing, grinding! no scrapes in the disk although it is slightly, slightly warped, wen i tryed to spin the disk it hardly spun at all so i wedged the pads away from the disk, WD40 on all the rubber bits & knocked the caliper about (shouting prefusly) shook it a lil also with both hands, it seemde to move slightly, disk seemed to move more freely after all the comotion so see how we go....

ive had the wheel off tho & back on. while it was off i played around with the caliper a lil...
its hard to say if it slowed down or not the high pitched qseek did yes, but the scrapping, rubbing noise ws just the same untill i stopped....! then as stated above it was intermitent!
really got me thinkin this has! i may get the bearings bone any how & go from there 106.5k the bearings could do with replacing anyway i guess!?
