Exclamation dancing rev counter?

hello there my Saxo has been off the road for 6 month, i start it regularly and do all the right things ect ect, but yesterday when i went out to start it my rev counter was going mental! i have no idea what it was i have looked every where for a solution? nothing??
im at a loss any help is good

was it just the rev counter or the engine revs aswell?

just the rev counter the engine note never changed

i think the sensor would probably want a clean and is probably just blocked with cack, bit of WD40/electrical cleaner should see it right as rain mate.

iirc the sensor is on the bottom of the gearbox, well it is on other Pugs/Citroen so im guessing this is the same

Try this.....

Turn you ignition on but dont start it then turn it off and remove the key

Repeat this 5 or 6 times then start it.
