Hey guys, just a quick question.

I have a Canon Ixus 50, and would love a proper SLR camera, but can't afford due to moving out, so am looking just to get the best out of my little point and shoot camera!

im looking at doing some portrait shots of my gf, and have been looking at professional photos, i can't get anywhere near the look that they get.

basically i want the shots to be all focussed on her, and anything in the background to be blurry if you know what i mean. i want her to stand out and be the centre of the shot.

im thinking that my camera doesn't have enough flexibility to do this, because of its limited feature and only 1 lense, but can anyone help me get more from my Ixus?

Thanks

Alan

Something like this you mean? (random example)

You'd need a camera where you can set the aperture higher (i.e. a lower number) and that has a large sensor. So no go with the Ixus.
