Default Power steering failing :(

My engine light came on the other day driving a long distance to Glasgow. Ive had the car not in use for the last few days as the weather was awful. Today, i drove to the shop and the car was ok, untill i slowed down to park and the steering went extremely heavy. It was ok shortly after but cut out again & started to make a whining sound when i turned the steering wheel. It then stopped working completely and went very heavy again. The problem ive got is, that ive got to make the 150 mile journey home on the 2nd.

Any ideas?

thanks

Sounds like the pump has gone, you can still drive it like it but make sure you eat your spinach in the morning

I am having the same problem at the moment too so I'm also trying to learn about it. Ive been driving mine without the pas its hard to park or do anything at slow speeds but not a problem when you are moving.

Judging from the whine you was hearing I would hazard a guess at the pump being the problem and not the relay but I'm just going by what i have read on here previously

Mine went and i got new brushes soldered in. It worked out cheaper in the end but cant remember how much i think it was about 50 because of labour costs. £75-£100 isnt that bad when you think a new one from citroen is around £355.

My power steering has failed also - although with all this snow and ice etc... I'm not really noticing it

Anyway, OP says engine light came on?? I haven't seen mine come on, should it have (maybe previous b'stard turned it off?)?
  • Sunroof leaks - frozen shut!
  • Runs at 7/8 temp constant
  • Heater has one setting - 3
  • Water in headlights! (no idea?)
  • Partner parked into side of neighbours car last week

Never had a better car?! Best of health Happy New Year!
