Unshiftable Tar Spots :(

Got some wheels for a good price for my polo and there are loads of tar spots in between each spoke. Tried using clay to get them off but didn't work too well so I bought some valet pro citrus tar and glue remover which also didn't work that great but I managed to get 1 wheel done in 3 and a half hours and a couple of clay bars later, and that's without polishing and waxing them.

Just wanted to know if anyone can recommend anything else to speed it up a bit??

The wheels were used as winters on an R32 so he obviously didn't wash them for 6 months lol

Autosmart Tardis will get tar off with ease

Autosmart Tardis as said above will remove it if it is tar.

Sometimes it can be breakdust thats bonded on......that can be alot harder to remove.

It must be brake dust then because valet pro is a good enough tar remover but it just seems to just take the tiniest bit off no matter how long i leave it for. What the best thing to do if it's brake dust?? Just carry on as I am with the clay??

if tardis don't shift it it isn't tar.
buy some tardis it's a must have product.
if it doesn't shift it, buy ironx great stuff seriously stinks though. then follow up with claying.

if that doesn't work get a respray

If it is brake dust then get a more acidic product such as Wonder Wheels. I used that on my wheels when they were fucked. You just need to make sure you don't leave it on too long otherwise you risk damaging the surface of the wheels.

When my wheels were bad I used it neat and agitated it with the brush it came with then rinsed/wiped clean.

I tried wonder wheels but i was too scared to leave it on for too long because the spots are near the polished lip on the wheels so it didn't really work. I've ordered some Iron X so I'l let you know how I got on

Oh fair enough if parts of the wheels are polished. Don't blame you for not leaving it on. lol

Try some petrol on a cloth if nothing else shifts the tar spots.

Personally would've gone for a sample bottle of Tardis of eBay before purchasing Iron Cut. It's real good stuff but Tardis is top of the list for removing tar.

Apparently the strongest stuff you can get is meguiars wheel brightener.

that is complete crap. tardis is designed to remove in/organic molecules (i can't remember which). ironx as it's now renamed removes well iron.

buy some tardis aswell mate spot on product every one should have some in their aresnal

I'm quite sure it's brake dust now because I tried that citrus tar remover on my girlfriends car and it took the tar straight off yet it barely did a thing on my wheels.

Got the Iron X through the post yesterday with a few other things from CYC so I thought I'd give it a try today....took the spots straight off with a bit of elbow grease and followed up by claying. Still a few tiny spots left which will be coming off tomorrow. Wheels aren't in the best condition so they'll be getting refurbed in the new year.
