Opinions on 1.9 GT TDI mk4 Golf
Hey everyone
was wondering what your opinions are on the 1.9 TDI golf, im looking for a comfy car that will do great mpg and still has a nice little kick to it.
i do alot of motorway miles so need something that will sit nicely at 70 and still pick up and go if i need it to.
apart from the looks side what are these like on performance im not wanting something mind blowing but with a FMIC, Exhaust, Panel filter and remap it will still keep me reasonably happy.
anyone have any experience of the engines ?

Drove one, quite dull tbh, not really an "exciting" motor, but imo, is practicle, comfy, allot of garages up here use them as tow cars as they do such great MPG!
and with the audi TT wheels on it (the 12 spoke or w/e it is) look awesome!

I hope you're not on about the done to death audi a8 replica's that every chav and his twat has on there vags?
They look good but you cant have them cos all the muppets stick them on their standard cars and they look wank
TT replica's are the same ballpark

fiddle with the turbo and you have a winaarrr
my passat's the 1.8 20VT 150 BHP and it'll sit at 80 and pick up from up to 120 without much bother

I'd get a Bora, just to be different.
One of my friends has got the 130bhp Ibiza FR, now remapped to about 170, it pulls pretty well, its just the horrid noise and the 'no power after 4k revs' that I hate.

Out of the two go for the 130, the 150 has a weak oil pump and so the cams tend to wear quickly on them. Its roughly £1,000+ to fix when they go.
Can remap them fairly easily and see a good power gain and a fair few more torques.
Also when remapped they tend to be better on MPG.
Solid enough cars otherwise, not great fund to drive but perfect for what you need it for. Ideal motorway car.

Will suprise alot of people with a simple generic remap.
Ever looked at the fabia vrs?
Personally more interesting and different (biast) but yeah.
Standard im next fiesta st's all the way untill about 70 - 80 where i take them over.
3rd gear torque is awseme.
Once a generic remap the golf / fabia's will be on par with type r's untill about 80 but still have double the MPG.
After spending about 3k on one, and with a stage 2 remap, youde be looking at around 220bhp and 350+ lbt's of torque.
Good fun
