Default 1.1 Head - 1.4 Block.

Just wanted to know if this is possible?

Basically - I have a 1.1 Desire. About 15k ago, the cambelt went and bent the valves aswell. Knowing I had a 1.1, I bought a replacement head and went about fixing the car. Everything has been fine for the last 15k...

I have been reading on the forum for a while about people with 1.1's, and the sort of speed they do without struggling - Mine seems to be much higher... Same with pulling away, It seems to stick closer to VTR's than most other 1.1's - Just was wondering if its possible I had a 1.4 instead of a 1.1! It doesn't feel as powerful as a VTR, but feels quicker than a 1.1 (Well, my logic anyway)

I just wanted to know if its possible to run a 1.1 head on a 1.4, because if it isn't - Then my question has already been answered - I have a decent 1.1! If it does fit, then maybe some further investigation is required to see!!

I've been here long enough to know the Sax-P police, and there intolerance for speeding. But lets just say on a private road, it doesn't seem to struggle too much to touch 90/100 (Sat Nav reading, about 95 / 105 speedo)

Pics of engine?
Does the engine number match the one on the V5?
Was the car stock or modded when you bought it?

Havent checked the engine number, the car was modded - badly when i got it.

Just before checking the engine number, thought it see whether its possible to be in the situation that im in, with a 1.1 head on a 1.4 block... Would save me looking for the engine number if it wasn't possible.

Yep the heads are the same. I put a 1.1 head on my 1.4. I checked with Citroen that the cam profiles are the same they said its the same part number for earlier models. Mine runs fine, if anything better than before. I get 115mph easily, yours is probably a 1.1 though

It is possible it had had a 1.4 put in at some point. But it is also possible just to be a good 1.1 and the cars are are comparing it to may not be as well looked after or have been messed about with. Does the engine number match the one in the logbook?

There are different 1.1 heads in the same way there are some different 1.4 heads. Not all are directly interchangeable but some are. There are many deferences for example some of the early heads had the injector in the throttle body where later models had holes drilled in the head to fit them.

A good late model should see the speeds your talking on the flat and even more with a tail wind or going down slight slope. So it is not doing anything unusual. But please don't try it on the roads as the police would quite rightly have your licence off you for being a moron.

I would expect 1.1 and 1.4 heads are interchangeable if the year matches. The performance op describes is about right for a 1.1.
