Default heaters not working

hi, the heaters have decided to stop working.

i read that if the steering, back window heater and the heater fans all stop then to go into the driver column and cut some brown wires and re attach them to each other.

the heater blowers and back window heater have both gone. but i'm not sure if i have power assisted steering its an r reg car? should i do it anyway?

or any other ideas..... xx

As above check your fuses before you start playing about with wiring!
