no this isnt for me (i would probably shrivel up if i adopted this diet) - basically talking to of the Industrial Placementers at my work and him and his lass are doing the Atkins diet for two weeks. Basically I'm interested purely from a science point of view - i've just been sifting through wikipedia for info but just wondered:
Has any one on here tried it?
Is it successful?
Thoughts and opinions on it?

Q, is it successfull? A, NO
Thoughts on it! dont do it! diets dont work!
You couldnt sustain that deit for a lifetime... Mr Atkins died from a heart attack if im not mistaken & he was over weight to i think... correct me if im wrong...
simple! eat a balanced diet, fad deits dont work, your diet is your diet, its the food you eat all the time!!
""to much of one thing is bad for you""

I know of people who have been on that diet and been unwell because of it, one of them having to go to hospital
Like westy says just watch what you eat
Also regular exercise is the way forward!

not healthy!
it works on the basis that your body requires its engery from carbohydrates! this diet plan has very little carbohydrates in... this means your body will resort to burning calories from fat stores - the side effects of this is that you will feel as tho you have no energy, your carbohydrate stores are in the muscles this is so your bady can get hold of it & use it quickly when needed!! your bodies last resort of energy finding is to actually break down muscle tissue.... not good!
alot of the foods in teh deit if im correct are acually rather high in protein & some in fat too, you only need a palmfull of proin a day anymore and your putting your body under more strain as it has to process it for no apparent reason!! so a strain on teh body that isnt needed no energy & no energy & potentally high in fats... Hmmm
as said before best "KISS" ( keep it simple stupid )

Also with the Atkins diet, people find that they loose weight quickly by restricting carbs, but as soon as you go back to a normal diet you will find that the weight will come back on.
Would never consider it if I needed to diet as the lack of energy is just stupid.

Westy...
Indeed the second day into the diet (monday) he felt totally crap but has been fine since. He went to the gym on tuesday but failed miserably at cycling (lack of energy).
And yes in the morning he eats a fry up (well nearly)...
Fried Bacon
Fried egg
Fried Sausages etc.
so bog all carbs but loads of fat and protein.
the lunch consists of
Salad with mayo and cheese.
All he drinks is water.
To be fair if he behaved himself afterwards then i suppose i cant see losing the weight as a bad thing but he has already said that he will be drinking during the world cup
but still i find it interesting...

Ive been on this diet & lost 2 stone.
I did it for 5 days, lost a full stone but it messed with my head, i ended up going to the docs & getting some cocodomols which got rid of the pain.
Cant remember the exact term used for it, but its where you starve yourself from carbs.
But about a month later i tried it again & lost a full stone in 7 days.
Its now been about 6 months or so till i did this diet & honestly, ive put on about 2lb's & i eat like i used to.
BUT, my dad has this problem where he cant put on weight easily, iam thinking i may have this problem aswell because almost everybody who has been on the atkins diet has put the weight straight back on.
This diet could kill me, but i'd go on it again to lose another 2 stone.

y go on & off a diet!! Ur diet is your diet.... you dont go on & off a diet... these fad diets are a mere variation in your diet!
y dont animals have different diets!?! We are the same as them, change your bad eating habits for good ones & stop being lazy & looking for quick fixes & excuses for your gluteny!!
harsh but thats the truth no need to over eat & binge on the wrong foods.... be disaplined & eat properly

Well this lad decided to go stick with the diet for a week.
In the end he lost 7lbs, pretty amazing to be honest.
I'll be sticking to the baguette a day regime while the money is tight.

There was an article i once read that said if you suddenly stop eating you can actually gain weight?? I dono if that is true or not?
I think they should just eat what they want and be done with it
