Default and todays problem is.....

mk1 1400 put vtr lump in with unlocked ecu, was running ok but idling high, then it cut out and wouldnt re start. been in the garage tonight and it starts and runs fine for afew minutes, then the Engine Management light comes on, it runs like a bag of S**t for afew seconds and cuts out. leave for afew minutes and it starts and does the same again. so far ive cleaned the idle control valve, if thats whats underneath the inlet through a rubber bracket. changed the crank sensor, and changed the coil pack. anyone else had this problem or have any clue as to what might be wrong with it?

Many thanks

Gareth

I check the coolant temp sensors, the problem sounds like its related to the engine warming up. You can check by removing the leads to the coolant sensors, if it runs ok then thats what it is

This is what i thaught, its as if something is getting hot and then giving up the fight until it cools down again. going to get some sensors from a scrappy later to start the process of elimination. does this problem sound like a common fault?

If the ECU wasnt unlocked it wouldnt run at all.

Why is it that most lads on here can't read?

been doing some investigating today, changed the icv and now i have the same problem but where the revvs should be, but what i did was unplugged the throttle position sensor, the revvs went high but it ran alot better and continued to run with the engine light on, the minute i plugged the throttle position sensor back in it ran ran like a bag of s*t for afew seconds then cut out. so im thinking that this sensor is at fault. its the only one i havent changed. does that make sense to anyone else?
