Default Gooses 16v VTR Back-2-Basics

Alright people,

I bought the car as a vtr for £700 back in July 2010 then the engine blew so I went down to Nottingham and picked up vts full conversion.

Fitted the conversion and it was canny nippy, felt as fun as my redtop corsa did lol.

Then I bought a BMW e46 318i Touring and but the saxo up for sale for £800 quicksale.

Nobody wanted to buy it after 6 weeks so I decided to just keep it, take it to bits, and add lots of new shit to it then put it back together.

This will be a slow project thread as funds are tighter than a nuns cunt at the moment.

I have made a bit of progress by what you can see in the pics but the plans are:

- Coilovers and raised up a little
- Rebuild VTS lump
- Clean/Replace engine and loom sensors
- Supersprint exhaust system with 4-2-1 mani
- Decat
- Strut Braces (Possibley full cage)
- Respray in either white or full street art
- Cams (Possibley Newman PH3 or 708's)
- Lightened flywheel
- Decent air feed and filter setup
- Fully anti rust treated and undersealed
- Respray engine bay
- Paint engine block and covers
- What ever else would take me to approx 150-160bhp

The car needs some TLC and has a major rust issue as seen in pics (but its not terminal and my mechanic does work on the fiddle and says its an easy fix)

I currently have the VTS box on, I have my old VTR box, which is better to use between the 2? I cba with no 1litre boxes blowing up every other wank.

Ideas and opinions would be sweet? Any other ideas and how is best to take it to 160bhp.

Bad rust!

Cheers mate, never even thought of smoking fronts, now that you mention it I think it would look the tits!

De-wipering soon and all the exterior vt trim is off and that will all be getting put back on with new clips and a shit loada tigerseal.

Just busy cleaning the engine and gearbox atm, because the block was leaking oil from a gasket its a bit messy (and the degreaser stinks).

Smoked lights definitely look looaadss better I wouldn't use tigerseal on the vt kit though, new clips will be good enough they tend to look rippled when stuck on

How do I go about smoking the lights? Or would I need to buy a set already smoked?

Also any ideas on the best way to take it to 150-160bhp?

My mate has a vts in his 106 running 154 and he's had it cammed, mapped, induction kit and full exhaust. Hopefully that will help

Mines running 156 bhp , that's with Newman ph3's , 4-2-1 manifold , supersprint race system , induction kit and remapped ecu .

Got it remapped at Chipwizards , not sure on price as got mine done as a package ... Car was 100x better after the map , pulled alot faster and smoother through the gears.

Cars looking good mate my mate put ph3's in his vts and it ran like a pile of shit! sometimes went like a vtr lol, got it live mapped down at chipwizards and it made 163.9 bhp,, his spec is... janspeed 4-2-1, supersprint centre pipe, piper backbox, k&n induction kit, port and polished head, ph3 newmans, newman uprated valve springs, all on a c2 vts engine (JP4).. mines only runnin 138 with a 4-2-1, straight through supersprint exhaust, and a green cotton filter, but it pushes his up the road till bwt 110 and then his cams go ballistisc and wave bye bye

Alright folks, abit of progress to report on.

Cleaned up the gearbox (took 5 hours) then started to paint it today, painting has been done by a brush and anti rust paint rather than a can as I already had brush on paint and couldn't justify spending money on cans for a marginally better finish.

I need to wait for the paint to dry then flip the box on its side to paint the remaining 10% which hasn't been painted yet.
