Default TPF+T or Fully Comp for a Saxo?

Insurance is due 1/1/2012 - Happy new year to me

Its Either:

TPFT: £795.42

£150 young person's excess
£12 Windscreen Excess
£xx Legal Expenses

Or Fully Comp: £838.12
£150 young drivers excess
£250 Excess encase of accident
£80 to protect my NCB.
£480 excess to pay encase i have a accident )

That is the cheapest i could find for a VTR.

Is it really ideal to have fully comp? I said to the lady on the phone due to the car's being made from tin (and she laughed) would the car be a write off if someone reversed into my wing. She didn't know how it all works but said its a sticky one for being a 10 year old car.

So you're excess is £400 total, the £80 to protect your NCB is not an excess its just an extra charge on the premium price.

How much do you value the car at?

Say you think it is worth £1200 which means the insurance company will likely say £800 and after haggling you will get them up to a grand....minus the £400 for the excess gives you £600.

Also add on the extra they will charge on your next policy after you declare the accident (whether your fault or not).

I have fully comp simply because it's like £8 more or something stupid and my excess is like £250.

And i'm assuming you're over 25 with 3+ years driving and NC?

I valued it at £999. It sounds stupid but i believe when you hit the bracket of £1000 they'll add on some more money?

Admiral said the £80 is a excess i have to pay because its a policy they have when you protect your NCB. (I have 4 years now btw).

I'm not too sure what cover i should take out. I know that if i spun out and hit the central reservation at 70Mph, i'll be more then likely dead.

I took out Fully comp sinply because it was cheaper. I did hike up the excess to £500 though because it's not really worth claiming on a saxo so I doubt it would ever effect me.

Close, 24 with 7 years driving and 4 years NCB which is protected.

I had to pay like an extra £100 on my policy (also Admiral) to protect the NCB but there is no extra excess to pay for having it protected.

If you are happy to pay the £400 excess and be left with whatever else upto the value they have offered then get FC.....if not get TPF&T

I did an insurance quote on my VTR and valued it at £900, quotes came back of £1800, revalued it at 1400 and quotes came in on £518 fully comp, thats 1 years NCB and 1 years experience with an accident declared that wasnt my fault

For what the price difference is, I would say go fully comp. You just don't know what is going to happen, it would be a nice thought to think you can get away safely with TPF&T but fully comp it.

Insurance agents either don't care or simply don't know, they are call loggers not insurance specialists....

if you crash then on TPFT you will not get a payout if it's your fault, you'll get nothing.

i will always pay the little bit extra for FC even if the car isn't worth it just for that bit of extra piece and in most cases it's not much more expensive.

also to get it cheaper play around with where you park it mine were £12 cheaper to say it were on a road rarther than a drive thats with admiral aswell .

Mines in a locked garage.

I think I'll go tpft with only £150 excess rather then £480 like I would have to pay otherwise.

Mine was cheaper to park it on a busy road than to park it on my drive or in a locked garage!

If you are not going to claim then it's a waste of money.

Mine was only a few quid extra but I haven't decided whether I would claim, although I would get £600-£700 back, my insurance could go up because I would have to declare an accident so may not be worth claiming.

I've just gone Fully Comp with a 10 month policy. They recommended this due to 1) Build up my N.C faster and 2) The time of year that renewal is due for would make it finically harder for me to pay off because i always pay it off in one lump sum.

£838 with £360 excess i didn't think was bad, considering my renewal price was £813 only TPFT.

I have £360 excess (£150 of it's due to being a young driver under 25)
£60 Excess to protect my NCB of 4 years
Hire Car Car
Windscreen Cover
Legal Assistance

I was getting silly quotes from GoCompare, Compare The Market or like anywhere between £850 - £1180 and beyond.

Looks like Admiral win me for there custom once again for another 10 months.

I checked around for my insurance before renewal and I was getting quotes of like £2300 on the net, when Admiral renewed me for £1400.. was like I guess i'm staying. I'm on the 10 month thing just to get some no claims as I was fucked about by Churchill before. Admiral have knocked £500 since the last policy cost, so I cant complain.

That's really weird, I checked all through my policy and nowhere did it say I had an excess for protecting my NCB. Think I paid about £100 extra to actually protect it but it's worthit as losing it would cost a shit load more than that!
