Thumbs up power

just thought id write this i read about people putting big engines in there cars to gain more power ie bhp insurence flys up and alot more fuel im not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs but its possible to get alot of bhp and spead if you need it ( speed kills) out of a smaller engine like induction changes having ur engine remapped or other related preformance parts just thought id add this ,,,,,,,,,,, and its fun trying to get there and i would say from past experience you get more satisfaction for your work ,,,,,, happy days/....

I love how the OP talks as if the saxo has just been invented...

16 years since the first saxo and thanks to this thread, I now know it's possible to mod the engine!

Enclosed induction kit - £150
Full decat exhaust and manifold - £200 (2nd hand)
Cam - £150 (2nd hand)
Remap - £400 (roughly)

Total cost - £900 + labour (if you can't fit anything yourself)

You would be lucky to see 20bhp gain on a 98bhp VTR engine and you wouldn't be able to do much more unless you decided to spend $$$ fitting a turbo.

Cost of a VTS engine + fitting would be a similar price (could easily be cheaper) which
will give you an instant 20bhp gain and leave much more room for extra power with similar mods to the above.

Have to think about bhp per £ and fitting a 16v engine is the best way to achieve this.

Original post stated that insurance and fuel go up when putting a bigger engine in for more power, the same happens when you highly tune an engine

Not so much on the fuel.

It's a bigger engine in a small car so the engine isn't trying to move the weight as much as say a 1.1.

I was talking about the reasons against tuning say a 1.1 over dropping in a bigger engine lol

No doubt you can get power out of relatively small engine. Look at the turbo and supercharged cars on here but they are still 1600's and have thousands spent on them. This of course will be great satisfaction especially if you have built it yourself.

But you claim you can get decent amounts of power from small engines with induction kits and remaps. Not at all. You'd be lucky to notice any difference from breathing mods on a sub 1600 engined saxo. Definitely nothing to be satisfied about.

I notice in your profile it says you own a 1.1 Saxo. I hope you didn't mean you could get any kind of performance gain with an induction kit or remap on it.

Plus fog lights = 20bhp gain

Not to mention that gains to be had from go faster stripes and an electric supercharger from Ebay....
