Exclamation nakard my timing up and snapped pulley

hi
today was the day , i started to strip down so i could change the timing belt as its never had one and its got 78.000 on the clock, anyways it was all going well till i was taking the bottom pulley off to get to the timing marks when i was cranking on it to get the bolt undone ( no air tools ) the bottom pulley slipped around 3 to 4 times from the belt been stretched , so i tryed winding it back to do the reverse and my cam pulley snapped so i have a car that i cannot move on my drive way , best advice please cheers and no sarcastic comments please

is it just the cam pulley that's snapped? if so replace the pulley its the only thing you can do. if the cams snapped then you need a new cam. you should be locking the cams and the crank when trying to undo the bottom pulley mate.

if you haven't got the pulley off the bottom yet, i suggest putting the wrench/breaker bar on, properly ( ) and giving it a few sharp taps with a hammer.then put your full force on it and it should come free - still a bastard though.

nope pulleys still on and i was going that with the ratchet , and i took the bottom pulley off via 3 bolts and then theres the bit behind i was taking off with the 22mm soket so put the bottom auxiliary pulley back on? and lock that off and crank on it ? and yeah just the cam pulley

sorry dude you have confused me.

what's actually broken? just the top cam pulley? or the belt?

to get the bottom cam pulley off you need to take the aux pulley off.

you got a Haynes manual?

put the car in gear when trying to remove the bottom pulley as wel.

right ok, new cambelt pulley you need mate. mighty sure i have one in my shed. will check when home.

can you not slide the belt off the bottom pulley now? as your timings gunna be fucked now anyway. you just need to use the crank locking hole to set tdc and then use the new pulley for the top to set the timing at the top. not 100% but i think you have to remove the bottom pulley to remove the belt iirc.

you know when you tried undoing the bottom pulley, did you have the car in gear?

The big bolt u are trying to undo on 2nd pic dosesnt undo mate. U needed to undo the 3 bolts that hold the bottom pully on and thats it. Uve snapped the cam pulley because u are trying to undo sumfin even air tools would struggle to undo.

Ive gt a feelin if its slipped on the belts teeth it would of damaged the valves. U need put s new cam pulley on and new cambelt but i dnt think it will time up properly

you know there a way of locking the bottom end off though the flywheel? you dont remove the crank pulley to do a cambelt job on these.

if you work in a garage get the autodata information will tell you how to do it.

looks like you wasw using the cam pulley to lock it off, so you could get a bar on the bottom crank nut to take it off, which put the stress though the cast pulley for the cams which broke.

the nut will undo, but you dont need to do for a cambelt change.

I'm really confused as to why you are doing all this mate??

Remove the aux belt

Remove the aux pulley

Remove the cam covers

Lock the cam pulley off, lock the crank off at the gearbox end

Undo the belt tensioner and move it up to loosen the belt

Remove the belt??

same it very confused it sound like he was cutting corners to me. by just lock off the top and then using a bar to take the nut off which in turn broke the cam pulley.
