the box is the igntion relay

which means you have something unplugged or plugged in wrong if its clicking

get pics of the wires or plugs you havent got a home for yet and post them in here

1.4 ecu wont work mate. ecu is timed different than the vtr. or so it was with mine. sounded like a bloody v8 when i started it up. the relay under the ecu if i remember is for the fuel pump.
as for your earth wires near the starter motor, well the starter motor has 2 earth wires and the others may go on the gearbox.
as i said tho it will run shit with the 1.4 ecu. i did go from a single plug 1.4 to a 2001 vtr engine and tried the 1.4 ecu with the 1.4 loom (furio btw) and it started up but did sound like a v8 starting up like that.
did sound awsome but obv not how it was ment to lol. only way i sorted it in the end was get the right ecu and loom (3plug ecu) but as i went from single to 3 plug engine also had to change interior loom.
as your vtr engine is 2000 im sure it will be a single plug ecu, but id still guess youl need the vtr ecu. loom should be fine though

Yh it is a 1 plug ecu on both but obviously ill have to get the bye ecu unlocked then but even though its a 1.4 ecu I should still get a spark right? Also so all three wires go to starter motor 2 earth 1 live? So if I get the vtr ecu unlocked I still need to remove the 1.4 imobaliser right? How do I do that lol

I ran vtr engine on quicky e u for a little while.. Ran fine

What colour is the relay under the ecu?

You'll need a r loom that matches the ecu when you swap.. The 1.4 ecu side loom plug is bigger so the r ecu won't fit onto that loom
