How low do you think I can go - Saxperience

Hey,
I've got a Y reg saxo vts and it has 17" alloys on it which came with it. The tyres on are 205/40R on 17's. I really want to lower it,because to be honest it looks like a 4x4 right now! BUT I don't want to take my 17s off! I've had different opinions from people who know cars but not specifically saxos, I've had varied answers from yes you can lower and no you can't. Any help will be appreciated and I'll include some pics so you can have an idea what it looks like. Cheers, Rich.

yeh m8 you can lower it no problem but you will have to remove your arch liners which is no problem bout 10 - 15 minutes work under the front arches that is. i@m not sure if you will need any arch work done then depends on how low you go but i expect u do!! it also depends on the profile of your tyres also how much work would be needed to stop them from rubbing etc.

Thanks mate, I'm only really wanting to lower it a little to start with and if it doesn't look good enough then start to lower more so as long as i know it can be done i'll give it a try thanks again mate

Thats sound like a lot of hassle to me just take a look at few pics of Saxo's lowered on 17's there plenty on here, then make your decision.

Its best just to lower once then keep going back to it.

should have kept standard rims and then lower it, all to thier own taste but errr dont think those look good imo (i too own a black vt) and think the standard rims suit it to the nines, more so on black then any other colour. Dont really think saxo's where made for 17's, unless its a show car, then go +.

im down 40mm on 17's and it sits just right imo. i did all the arch work myself, half a days work tops aslong as you take your time and think about where and how it rubs etc...

When I bought the car I got the alloys with it, didn't have the choice of the standard ones. Everyone to their own opinion mate, but I've never heard anyone say they prefer 14" alloys over 17"s, you're the first haha.

My mate has got a vtr and it's lowered 40mm at the back and 60mm at the front and we tried the wheels on and they fit fine and shouldn't rub from the looks of things. (on pic) I think i'll go 40mm all round though as it evens it out and atleast i know it has been done.

Depends on what the offset is like mate

17"s are too OTT though IMO. Go for 16"s max, but they still compromise performance. Stick with some nice 15"s and slam it 80mm

It's not all about size, you'd prob like your car more if you ran the VTS 15's.

I had 17's on my old saxo. Wanted to get it lowered, but was to much work to do, so took them off and sold them. It looked really nice but the handling was harsh as hell 2. I would lower it if you have the time and patience to do it as it will look good when done.

i agree with reef lowerd on standerd 14s is the best way to go

but with your i would only go down about 40mm
