The whole point of tuning is to raise the compression either from pistons or induction method.

What would be the benefit of lowering the compression?

Lowering the compression, with a thicker head gasket allows the fitting of a turbo whilst retaining standard internals & the running on low boost(that's the theory anyway)

Hence what I meant by induction method, the guy said he wanted to fit lower compression pistons without a turbo.

To OP - it depends what you mean. The higher compression in the chamber is better yes. But this can be achieved by a number of ways - high compression pistons are just one of them. For a turbo / supercharger setup you want lower compression pistons so you can then raise it back from the charger.

I suggest you read up on on how they work as there is some great material out there if you want to take it seriously.

as others have said,

low comp for turbo conversions,

high comp for biggers cams and bodies,

depends what route you want to go down.
