Default Banging noise near alternator belt saxo vtr

Hi, hoping someone can help, for some time one my saxo vtr 2002, when accelerating I was getting a whining noise coming from the alternator or somewhere around there, sounded almost like a drill lol, this was happening for some time then it suddenly stopped 2 nights ago, now when the car is started even on tick over I'm getting a banging noise from that area and my revs are sometimes idling rough the worse the noise gets which sometimes very rare, but results in the engine cutting out engine management light has also came on twice lately for around 30 mins but then once the engines been turned of for approx an hour I turn it back on and the engine management light is no longer on, my main concern at the moment is this banging noise also regardless of if I've got the clutch held in or not its still making the noise, it does stop every now and then and sounds normal again but it doesn't last long, everything else is working as it should, can anyone tell me what this is and how I can resolve it, thanks

Nothing wrong with the engine, think it could be the crankshaft pulley but just need advice on sorting it out

take it to a garage and stop running it.

I've had the alternator belt off and started the car without it, there was no noise at all then it seemed perfect so it can't be the engine right? I also checked the crankshaft pulley was tight and it is, checked for any movement or leverage in the crankshaft pulley and there isn't any movement, maybe need to check the alternator, don't want to just jump into taking it too a garage if I can diagnose and solve without paying garages

could be the bearings in the alternator. Buy a second hand one and fit it yourself

I think the bearings are goosed on the alternator, I've took the belt back off and the pulley on the alternator when I spin it with my hand it keeps getting really stiff so I can't spin it no more, I've got a alternator of a 1.1 saxo what works fine, but will that fit the vtr? I know the wires are different the 1.1 wires there's 2, one is a thick wire and 1 is a thin wire both with metal eyes on the ends to connect to the alternator but on the vtr there is a thick wire with eye on then there's 2 thin wires what go onto a small plug which plugs into the alternator, and could I cut that plug off and put an eye ring onto the end so that it connects to the 1.1 alternator? Hope this makes sense lol
