Exclamation loosing water and lots of it....

Ok I have a 01 Saxo VTR, tonight my temp guage went up and the red light come on, I stopped my car and had alook at the water in the exspansion tank ( think thats right ) and it was empty. So I knocked on a random persons house and asked to borrow a kettel of water ! Once refiled I continued on to my girlfriends house, I had reachers her's I checked again and noticed it had gone down by atleast a quarter. Within the hour it was completely empty again.

Now on the front shelf just infront of the cooling fan it was soaked with water, although when checking on the floor I couldn't see any exsess water ( although it had been raining ) what could this be ?

Is the radiator runined ? or is it the pipes or could it be anything else like the water pump ?

Im not to worrid about it as I have a dealer warrinty with SEAT and that covers parts and labour and me car is completely unmodded so it should be fine, but would just like peoples opinons on the matter. Thanks for your help !

the majority of the water would come out in the leak with the engine running when there is pressure in the engine. but jus sounds like a leakin rad. jus keep a bottle of water with you to fill up til the mechanic sorts it. obvoiusly fill with water before the temp gauge is on RED.

Head gasket!... I hate to say it but this happened to me once... thought it was the thermostat, or the temp sensor.... no... then the rad... no.... it was the head gasket... I wish I knew then what I know now as I would have done it myself and saved £350.... long time ago though

Yep, was gona say that.

If it's not leaking water, as in dripping (maybe even gushing!) out the bottom, or into the car via the heater matrix (Wet foot well), then it's likely 2 be the engine using it.

U get a lot of steam from the exhaust? Have "heard" that can be a good sign???

I used to have a old Astra and the head gasket went on that, basically the engine used to cut out etc and then it finaly went... but this isn't cutting out or the water doesn't smell of oil or anything.... I have checked this morning the water tank has emptyed on its own again but there is no visable leaks ? Im convered by a SEAT warrinty they have called out the AA to me as they dont want me to move the car. If it is the head gasket then hopefully it will be covered by the warrinty anyhow so no biggy for me, will just be without a car for abit.
