is there anything better than pro max? its pretty good looking at the back wth alot of protein in there
also no idea about creatine, ive taken it before but that was creatamax or whatever its called, any others to look out for?

reflex instant whey it a great brand as it also contains a high level of amino acids.
prolab pure whey is brill and tastes great but has simple sugars so if you are watching those calories may not be a good idea.
thers one called dymatize which is brilliant stuff too, tastes the nuts especially the butter cream one!
as for creatine thers a lot of debate as to how effective it really is. i have since stopped using it and gone back to hard training and eating well with good results.

i have read lots about creatine. i have not used it in ages (only ever tried it once - 1 tub). i still have had great gains etc so it deffo doesnt make a differnce with that. i heard now it just basicly helps you by giving more energy etc, so if you struggle in the gym or dont have the energy look into it, otherwise i wouldnt botrher

I use that cheap shit from Tesco, its all the same stuff in creatine, Maximuscle is quality stuff too, but its tremendously expensive! £30 for 2 weeks or something?
That creatine gives me a much needed kick up the arse when im in the gym most days, im like a zombie before i train anyway being sat in front of the computer all day.... Good Stuff imo, but there is a mystery surrounding long term effects an all that bollocks, worry about that later lol

I was leaned away from Maximuscle and towards Solgar.
Creatine is what your muscle fibres need to contract iirc (i did sports science 7 years ago so i cant remember the exact process).
It is already in your body and the person who i was taught by did a study and noticed no difference in performance with those taking creatine. Although this does not mean indefinately that taking creatine before exercise will not help performance.
I was on some Solgar tablets a year ago and they were awesome. I took them half an hour before exercise and could go on like the energizer bunny! I will try to find the name of them.

aren't all proteins pretty much the same thing though? i am a noob as food science but i thought its pretty much just the protein in the protein powders than helps the muscle grow, so they would al do the same job in reality (give or take more protein counts)? ive always thought its just people trying to sell, hence the stupid names of some of this stuff.
its like that exercise, "Dorian yates row" - its just a barbell row with your hands the opposite way, yet its "Dorain yates row" - i burst out laughing when i heard that, must be a creative guy!

each suppliment has different amounts of protein in tho, so yes they all have the same stuff in, but some has alot more per servings that the others

i used to get it from gnc health shop. theres a dorian yates website also which i used to order things that i couldnt get over the counter. theres a massive range.
iirc he teamed up with a guy who made chemical warfare supplements that were shit hot.
as long as you dont stay away from soya protein and proteins that mix with milk as a starter then you can compare bv values with others or the size of servings.
it also comes down to how much you wanna spend to how long the tub will last aswell.

good old protein thrad again...
Right basically all you need to know:
- If you are looking to build muscle you should be eating about 2g of protein per kg of bodyweight - If you eat more than this it will get stored at fat as the body cannot process all of it....so work out how much you need to eat and dont drink protein shakes like mad.
- the body can only absorb/process around 35g of protein at a time, so if you are drinking huge servings of shakes containing 60g of protein you will put on a lot of fat. So dont go out and buy a tub of protein on the basis that the more protein it has per serving the better it must be
- when buying protein, look for amino acids, protein content per 100g, fat & carb content (lower the better), and if it contains aspartame then steer clear.

um where to start.
creatine..boosts the bodies APT energy systems giving you alittle more for 'Fast twitch' mucle fibre movements, like one to two more reps or sprint work. you can get it in different forms, power, capsuls and cerium. works for some not for others. may cause unwanted water retention.
proteins, you have milk protein, whey protein concentrate or whey protein isolate..depending on what you are trying to acheive and what time of day you are using them depends on what you will need...

an interesting thread.
Especially seeing as some people are buying from ebay where theye could always put crushed mouse droppings in with the creatine and you wouldn't know!!!!
Also would be good to see matt if you've had much muscle put on using the promax stuff.
At the moment i'm getting pretty defined by going to the gym but would like.....seeing as i always liek to be able to say i've done something......to have a go for 3 months on this stuff and see what happens. I have the personality to be able to start and stop something easily which is good and bad but i'm happy at the mo just lifting twice my body weight!!!! (with my legs)

yeah if not getting the protein required to build muscle you will get more defined.
as tom said easy method for working it out. 1.5-2 grams of protein per kg of you weight.
just for leo .
eg weight 75kg = 150 grams of protein. divide that into 6 meals.
150 divide by 6 = 30 gramms a meal
as he said asweel your body cant proccess much over 30 grammes at a time unless after training wack 40 grammes in.
oz you will notice the gains straight away if youve been training for a while.

Thankyou bully
Very true as well bullit, the best gains are when you first start because its such a shock to the bod.
oz borune LOL ! anyone could put crushed mouse droppings in the tubs, it would happen at the same place anyway, warehouse where its sealed. so doesnt really matter if you brought it on ebay or shop, its where its made and sealed you wanna worry about lol.

my advice is that allthough i agree there is a place for supplements in a commtied training routine these will only take you so far and the rest has to come down to good old fashion effort. In my experience variety is the key, dont follow the same old routine week in week out. I have found the best gains (for general all round strength, size, definition etc) to be variety. I never do the same session. I vary the reps(4 stes of 6-8) or (3 sets of 10-15) and also the rest time (30 secs to 2mins)
Of course there are alot of other factors to take into consideration like genetics and level of suppliments
Really dont think there is one winning formula, just give stuff a try and see what works for you.
sorry for going off topic a bit but i think some times people get to hung up on these suppliments and think that by just taking a pill or having a shake they will become awesome!
 rant over
