Default Engine conversion insurance

Hey,

well I'm putting a VTS engine in my car (1.1 mk2) and I need to research insurance really. I haven't phoned anyone up yet as I only got back from Nurburgring earlier which is where I made my decision haha

Well, I'm 18, driving a 1.1 mk2 desire 52 plate and first question is, do insurance companies looking more or less favourably on engine conversions insurance wise. And how much is it gonna cost me?

thanks
scott

you will have to be with a specialist insurer i would of though, like adrian flux who deal with these types of modifications, i would of thought the cost of insurance would be similiar to if you had a vts, you could consider selling your 1.1 and then buying a 2000/1 vts as i think they would cost around the same if you have a 52 plate 1.1

The best price I have so far on a VTS:

£2698.24 with Budget car insurance

£2629.34 with Post Office

Quinn Direct don't want to insure me on it.

Try Bell.co.uk, Quinn-direct.co.uk, confused and maybe esure mate, im 18 and ensured my VTS for 2000tpft, fully comp is a waste of time to be honest!

Dont get a conversion as u'll spend a lot more on faults, reliability, sourcing and getting one professionally fitted than you would either buying a VTR or VTS mate. In short save yourself time and money and snap up one with a few mods on it already, gd luck fella!!!

Best bet is to compare the quotes you have with quotes for an actual VTS. Then take into account the cost to sell your car and buy a VTS with the costs for converting your engine.

am fitting it myself mate with the help of Stevenet15. It's not gonna be a bodge job so it should be as reliable as any other VTS. Would cost me alot more to buy and sell a VTS then put a VTS engine in mine. Will cost me 400-500 for an engine and that's it

found 2,400 best quote so far.

Just tried their Flexiplan which means that I don't get anything other than insurance. So no legal cover, breakdown cover, replacement cars etc etc. That comes to £1368.50 but I haven't put parents on yet.

well I've never done anything like it before to be honest. If you get the same MK and number of plugs on the ecu as your current engine then it is all plug and play. Engine out, new engine in. Simple as that

I'm planning on just doing it in 2 days with Steve. Think Tobster and my mate are going to help out as well though so we could have it done by lunchtime lol

Need to find a decent engine now...

Just had another think about this. As I'm going to uni in September. I will only be driving the car to and from the train station every day to get to uni so I'll only be doing around 7,000 miles a year which would take the quote down to:

£1238.13

well I might be able to help after I've done mine but wouldn't really know if I'm confident at doing it. Steve is only helping me with mine as I know help quite well and he's quite busy sorry mate.

A grand is quite expensive for all the work to be honest mate. It's only 2 days work at most. Wiring is the hardest bit if you don't find a similar engine to your own.

Fair cop, yeah should be a piece of cake as its going to be a direct swap for a new VTS lump wiv less miles as iv got 87 on the clock atm an think it might be on its way out soon. Plus a newer engine will run better for my CIT Turbo or TBs conversion next year, possible 190-200BHP. Possible lol
