Default My Black OEM+ VTR - Update 05/10: Gadgets

I probably qualify for making a thread now i've finally got myself a VTR, the previous owner asked me if I would stay on here so he could keep up to date with it, so once I start doing some worthwhile things to it I'll get some pics up.

Picked it up yesterday and at first on the drive back I realised I had underestimated the rattlyness of french cars that people talk about, I was a bit unsure at first but it grew on me more the more I drove it, but I did realise it does need a bit of tinkering before the modding starts.

The things I noticed are:
-Its a bit tappety, not so noticable on idle but when revving up it does tick a little....is this very bad or not, worried me a little as the car is only on 60k? I believe its an easy fix however.
-The gear linkages need some tightening up.
-The car needs a good polish
-I think ICV needs a clean as although the car idles quite well...it has an alternating noise from the exhaust like brr-brr-brr-brr as though its ever so slightly fluctuating.

Not such major problems, the tappety noise is probably the most worrying for me.

Anyway, although I have no pictures I have already started to make progress, moreso than driving it lol.

So far i've:
As soon as I got home I opened up the fob and replaced the micro button covers and internals on the circuit board, as they were crushed and missing, replaced the battery...then luckily had an idea that worked for reinitialising it to the car when the doors are delocked...wind down the window and use the door pins lol. So thats one thing sorted which made me happier, no more climbing in through the boot. On the way home I also noticed a rattling sound, my mum spotted the bracket which holds the spare tyre cage was loose(the tyre isnt under the car as apparently its so low it cant be dropped out) so I cable tied it up for the journey home, then as soon as I got back I got out the dremel and cut it off as it was seized. I popped down to Halfords this morning and picked up a rubber bung for the hole left in the boot floor by removing this brcket.

I also noticed the handbrake was a little loose on the way home, wasnt sure if there was a cable needing tightening or something as it seemed to move about when engaging the handbrake, so had a little look in the gap between the carpet and noticed the bolts holding the handbrake lever were down, so out came the seats(was going to do this anyway for cleaning the carpet), and the carpet lifted up...I tightened these bolts up which has made the handbrake pretty much perfect.

I then took the back seats out as well, cleaned these up and wet vacced the fronts, which are now drying in my room The rear bench may be done soon also, the boot was also stripped out, degreased and hoovered out.
I vacuumed out the carpet, cleaned the foot rest guard thing in the drivers footwell, along with the pedals, and upon putting the carpet back down(after removing a little bit of very slight surface bubbling and painting over..as you've probably gathered I have a serious fear of rust) I resecured it properly as it was a bit loose at some parts. I then removed the rear door card things as they appeared quite loose. After attempting to put them back on with the Citroen clips...they still seemed very loose and I came to the conclusion the plastic Citroen clips were either old, shite, or only meant to be used once....so I visited the mazda boot, pulled the trim out and collected loads of metal spring clips which look like these:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_k...2/IMG_2387.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_k...2/IMG_2389.JPG

I replaced a few of the loose feeling Citroen clips with these, and then replaced the rear cards...they now fit a lot more securely and hopefully the interior will rattle less..if aybody wants to try these clips let me know I can try source you some.

I then had a little look at the accelerator cable, I tightened it one notch as it was slightly loose and I think it needs another one of those clips which looks like a hairpin so theres one at either side to keep it tentioned.

And this is as far as i've got so far, tomorrow I'll be visiting the scrappy hopefully and then when I get back...finish cleaning and refitting the interior, then a good wash on the outside...apologies for the essay, and i'm sure many of you will know the car when I post pictures, if you haven't guessed already

Wtf is all that about lol? Noticed the stickers on yours and...nathans? car lol.

As for pics...you aren't gona be happy with me lol as I again didn't manage it today
Got some work on tomorrow but if its light after i'll get some, today I gave it a wash, dry, touched up the bonnet for now, put some tyre gel on the tyres, and some black gel on the bump strips...has a real nice shine to it now

Found out the cause of a clanging noise seems to be the exhaust hanger catching on the underside of the car, not sure how to sort that though :/

And a bit of bad news, when it was jacked up I checked the rear wheels...it feels to me like there is a little play in them :| A reconditioned axle can't have gone bad in just over a year can it? Should last till the MOT if it is going though, i'll have to get saving...

haha, its a car club mate,

mate its a saxo haha, i've had 4 of them now, a little bit of play is fine... no saxo is ever going to be perfect unless you're willing to spend thousands on it - that axle wont let you down

ah fair enough lol

Really? I thought if they had play they would need changing soon?

Don't get me wrong I love the car, but i'm sure the axle will wait till next MOT at least, or do you think its fine?

Need to do something with the dull grille, wanting to go for a debadged look with just the slats remaining, gloss on the outside and satin for the slats...not sure how to approach that yet though

Thanks

Yeah its pretty much the same concept as smoking the headlights, I didn't actually use paint on the fog lights though, I used some T-cut() but any abrasive polish will do, and if you apply it to the inside of the fog light lens, it removes all the chrome to a gloss black finish underneath.

Cheers lads.

dunno, smoked side repeaters, you got a pic mate i've not seen these for saxos?

As for smoked rears, you mean smoked jewels? I was thinking either those or the euro ultra clears with the red bottom, which is what i'm leaning towards :/
