anyone play bass guitar??

ive just started playing bass guitar,,
just wondering if anyones got any tips or advice.

I've played bass guitar since i was about 16 i think...

Havent really touched it in the last 4 years because of uni commitments which is shite.

I've been playing keyboard since i was about 4 and did A level music as well. so that helped...

Personally, I'd try to learn the actual note location and names rather than the 'tab' method... tab is good just to play songs but you'll be buggered when/if you join a band and have to play you're own stuff.

If you can get a bass teacher... if they're good they'll teach to properly, with finger exercises to strength the hand. If not get a few books and go through ALL the lessons. they may seem repeative and a tad shite but they'll pay off dividends later on.

Listen to old skool jazz and funk and these as some of the most complex bass lines going. if you can get some music software that slows the tempo down without affecting the pitch. then attempt to learn the rifts and gradually get quicker and quicker.

remember that a bass is more a percussion instrument if you like and that its important to keep a rhythm rather than play the correct notes so to speak.

arh , ive been learning the "tab" way,,, i'll try your suggestion.

i think im gonna book a few lessons at a local music shop.
