Servicing Parts
Hi!
Ive recently purchased my first Saxo VTR mk2 after finally selling my FTO in order to save a bit of cash on tax, insurance and general running costs. Being a new owner of a completely different car, im a little in the dark as to what ive got myself into and so I have a few questions
1) Are there mechanical differences between mk1 and mk2 VTR's? For example, if I bought an oil filter for a mk1, would it fit onto a mk2?
2) Wheres the best place to get standard parts from, aside from Citroen themselves
3) Should the cambelt be completely covered in some kind of guard or should it be exposed? I thought it looked quite open when I saw it but wasnt sure if they were all like this
Thanks for any help you can provide!
PS: Its a Y plate electric blue, Gav and Stacey styleee! haha

Firstly, welcome to Sax-P
1) Oil filters are different on the 2 models. mk1 has a screw on oil filter iirc and the mk2 has a cartridge type one.
2) Best places for parts are either Euro Car Parts ( http://www.eurocarparts.com) or German, Swedish, French ( http://www.gsfcarparts.com). There are other specialist Citroen places (i.e. http://www.edwardsandson.co.uk) about maybe have a flicky through a yellow pages.
3) I Believe there should be a cover over the cam belt on both mk1 and 2.
Hope this helps you buddy
Ben

Thanks for the welcome dude!
Those websites look really good and seem to have a lot of standard stock parts so they will be a great help. They also stock mk2 oil filters so no point messing around with mk1 ones!
Hmm in that case i'll need to source a cambelt cover as im not liking the fact its so exposed, any thoughts on where to get one from?
Also there is a slight problem with the dash whereby the engine management light is flashing on and off? Any thoughts on what this might be, I had a look under the bonnet to find that front of the standard aitfilter box is missing = no air filter

That sounds like what the problem is... might be causing it to over fuel maybe. I'd try finding an airbox from a scrappy and see if that cures it. If you still have no joy, might be worth putting it on a diagnosics machine and the ecu will tell the machine whats up.
Do you have any breakers yards near you? They are ideal for things like this

Thats what I thought too, ive managed to source one on ebay for £20 for the complete kit, airbox and piping so not too bad really.
Does anyone have a pic of a VTR engine bay showing the standard air filter?

I actually prefer the mk1 lights, just because they hold that old school style before every car had bubbles/bug eyes for lights!
Mileage and age swung me over to the mk2 though, which doesnt look all that bad either in standard form!

From the pic it looks like the I have the engine in the 2nd pic. My air filter has the pipe that comes from the back of the engine but it breaks off before the end. see below pic, I have drawn a line where it finishes:
Would this cause the engine to over fuel do you reckon? Are there any sensors in the part thats missing?
Presumably having the pipe finish early means the engine isnt getting as much air as it should be?

Hmm, i'm not sure tbh. I mean if you fit an induction kit the tubing isn't there either. Maybe post up a thread in the engine and performance part. i'm sure some1 there will be able to help.
Must admit when i had a mk1 i prefered it but now i have a mk2 i prefer that lol.

Doubt that would make it over fuel. There are no sensors in that part of the intake.

Could be a split in the fuel line or something. I literally have no idea though.
