mk2 should fit BUT some came with a different thread on the hub end, though think it can be remedied by using the correct nut from the mk2

as far as im aware all shafts should fit all models, the lengths etc shouldnt differ and as far as im aware the splined hub sizes are the same. Would be worth while checking with some suppliers though

No any shaft will not fit, there are 3 or 4 variations.

1 is normal (for example sake)
1 has a longer spline that goes into the hub end that requires a different hub nut
1 is normal but has a different face that joins the hub, ie one is straight and the other has a lip.
last 1 is longer and has the lip.

so you need to make sure you get the same as what you have else it wont fit in the hub properly and you will keep braking wheel bearings.
