The ABS warning light has just come on! does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? do the discs and pads just need changing? because they are quite worn! or is there more to it than that?

the abs sensors wont be able to sense disc/pad thickness.

Most likely one of the sensors is dirty. Give them all a clean .

Mine has come on twice mate and both times it's been a faulty wheel sensor (front offside and rear nearside). As Scott says though, try cleaning the sensors first. They will almost certainly be caked in muck because they are magnetic and attract metal particles. To clean the rears, I found it best to get to the sensor head by removing protective back plate which is retained by three Torx screws as it is unlikely that you will be able to remove the sensor without destroying it as it will probably be corroded in place. Good luck!

also check the abs rings for damage, if the abs ring has a tooth missing (driveshaft on front, hubs on rear) then it causes havoc with the abs, but more than likely a dirty/dodgy sensor.
