Default Temprature light on

Hi
Could anyone help me as I have the temprature light keeps coming on in my Wifes 2000 Saxo Forte, does anybody know if there is a general fault with these. The light doesn't come on in town but when she gets onto the motorway it will light up after a few miles. I have checked the water and oil levels which are fine so all I can think of is that there is a fault with the light unit.

Could anybody confirm I am correct in my diagnosis or is there something that I am missing?

Many thanks in advance Brassneck

As Fossie has said could be the temp sensor try replacing it and then bleed up the system, it should sort it. Also check the wiring for the sensor in case it has just worked loose!
