Help/Views on my Job application Text
There is normally a place on an Admininstrator Vacancy Form where you can write your own text. To let the employer know more about you etc...
can you spot any mistakes or errors in this?
also any suggestion tof how to make it better would be great!
"I am an honest, hardworking individual and I have always prided myself in good timekeeping and organisation. I enjoy working to a strict set of tasks to achieve the end optimum result. I have the ability to work unattended and I am capable of making decisions equally, I can also work well in a team.
Since June 2006 I have been the sole administrator of Lawson and Thompson solicitors. My daily duties included : opening and directing post, diary management ,filing ,faxing ,emailing, answering 90% of all phone calls and dealing with at least 80% of clients face to face. After 3 months, I was promoted and introduced to the concept of Audio Typing.
I have always been a keen ICT enthusiast. I have a professional understanding of most Microsoft software package’s including, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Express and PowerPoint. During my ICT GNVQ I covered the basics of Microsoft Access. Day to day at my current employment I use Microsoft Excel and I am quite experienced in this software. My main duty is to input all the billing data from paperwork into a spreadsheet and submit it online.
Day to day at my current employment it is of utmost importance that I prioritise my tasks. For example if I am given an Audio Tape which contains documents that are needed to be placed in front of court for the following day, I must realise that I have to stop all other tasks in order to get this done, as this is priority where as opening files or filing paperwork are obviously not.
In any office Effective Communication is needed. I believe without communication a office is ran in the dark. For example if I receive a call containing important information which is not past on to the relevant department/person, a lot of time could be wasted and mistakes will be most defiantly be made.
With myself being the only Administrator at my current employment I am left to carry out most if not all my duties on my own initiative for example I am the only person who opens new files, data inputs and sends out the post. These are my sole responsibility's and if there are any problems or mistakes then I am held sole responsible.
I believe organisation is the key for any office environment to run smoothly and efficiently, my time spent with my current employer has improved my organisational skills Vastly. When I first arrive in morning I plan my day ahead and compose a numerical list of duties that I am to complete during the day and cross them off accordingly.
In the past I have dealt with very challenging situations but I have also remained calm and polite to ensure I give the best possible service I can. For example 2 members of staff were absent from work due to sickness and holidays. I had not been at my current employment very long and I was still in training, subsequently I was left to run the office on my own. I was praised at how professionally I handled the situation and I personally was happy with my performance. Admittedly there was times when I was a little stressed but I did not let this show in any communication or service I gave.
I confirm that I currently reside in the Northumberland area, Bedlington to be specific.
I currently hold a full clean UK Driving Licence and it would not be a problem to work overtime/extra hours as I am very flexible and do not have any outside of work commitments."

Isnt a cover note just a breif tag to say you are interested and have attached your CV?
Wouldnt all that infomation be within your CV anyway?

Noo you put all that in a CV, the employer wont want to read it all, its in most application forms where you have to write it out to correspond with the job specification, and when you fill in an application form, they wont accept your CV anyways.

Hate to say this but Leckie's hit the nail on the head there.
All the info you have put up on here sholud be on your C.V. and you should have a covering letter to go with it, just saying like you would be interested in the job and should they wish to meet you at all before an interview then you would be happy to attend.
This is one of my covering letters, I have cut my address out so you lot can't see it.
Dear Sir/Madam
I am currently seeking employment in Ayrshire and wondered if you had any vacancies at present.
I relocated to Scotland in March this year but have been unable to work until now as I had an accident just before my move which left me needing crutches to walk. I am now seeking employment within the retail sector as that is the area I am familiar with having worked in a supermarket, at a petrol station and in a model shop.
At school I was recognised as having a condition known as Developmental Dyspraxia which I am advised needs to be declared under the DDA. I feel that on the whole I have overcome many of the problems associated with it and have managed successfully to secure full time employment prior to my relocation.
I enclose a copy of my CV for your consideration and should you wish to consider me for any vacancy then I would be grateful for the opportunity. If you would like to meet with me in person then I would be happy to attend any meeting or interview you may wish to offer.
Yours faithfully,
Your covering letter should look something a bit like this.
