Default would you buy?

Hi all,

I have been offered a saxo vtr r reg for £280 however it has done 120k and clutch is slipping. Is it worth buying for a long term use? P.s. don't know anything about cars

cheers Bob

New clutch fitted will cost you a couple of hundred quid, if that was the only problem then it might be worth it. Does the car have any service history? How is the engine running?

The owner of the car says that there isn't a log of service history but he's got receipts for the work he has done. Ticks over alright but worried because the amount of miles it has done. How long do you reacon it will last?

How long is a piece of string?

Could last for 1 mile and the timing belt snaps or it could last 50,000 miles. For £280 it's worth a gamble though I reckon. If there's loads of things wrong though then you could easily spend lots of money in repairs.

Take it for a test drive or get someone who knows about cars to go with you

Higher mileage cars are more likely to fuck up on you so he's got a point, but mileage isn't everything. Take it for a test drive and see how it goes.

Give it a good service too if you decide to buy it.
