check the connection on the alternator if its flickering mate
might have rust or corrosion on it which is stopping the connection!

the power steering on saxos is electric so has nothing to do with your pully...

If you look at your alternator, the belt on the pulley on it will go to another pulley at the bottom of the engine, thats your crankshaft pulley. The crank pulleys on the VTS has a tendancy to wear and come loose cos it has a rubber damper ring built into it. Check this make sure its not worn, because they can come off like mine did hehe.
Also check make sure your belt on the alternator is tight, if its loose thats could be your prob. Driving without power steering wont hurt the car, it will just make your life hard more than anything.

my crankshaft pulley went christmas day. i did about 30 miles before it was trying to cut out. scary with no power steering then mid-corner it kicks in and suddenly your heading for the pavement.
