knocking from engine
Hi, just wondering if i can get some advice or if anyone has had the same problem. I have recently bought a citreon VTS from a friend. He took it off the road cause there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. Does anyone know what this could be? I thought perhaps the barings but now im not so sure. It gets louder the higher and harder you drive the car.
I did post this in another area of forum, but think i put in wrong place. Ooops

Its starts as a quiet tapping when you start up the engine, then gets louder and louder, i would say yes sounds a bit diesel but eventually it starts to sound over the engine noise!!! Worried in case i kill it by driving it.

Could it be your tappets are lose? I know my car has lose tappets but the noise isnt exactly a knocking noise, jsut a very fast "tap tap" noise.

We have checked the oil, and its topped up, big ends is looking like the most likely! Thought tappets, but it gets to loud!
Thanks for the help, it gives me a few ideas to have a look for! Going to get it into garage for a proper look me thinks. Just dying to play in her as i only got her lol.

Engine could be pinking they only do this under acceration,If its main end it would be a dull thumping noise through-out the rev range and would also do it when the engine is being reved on the spot.Has it just started or did you buy it like this? And does it only do it under load.

Is it coming from the bottom of the engine?
Did your friend run it low on oil at any point?
From experience and from what i have read these engines are very strong and bottom end problems are pretty much non existant if they are looked after properly..

It knocks all the time and is noticible inside and outside of the car, i dont think its pinking. I bought it like this. Was aware of the problem when i got it. Im just trying to get some advice so i can tell the garage what i think it could be.

I find that dog shit lubricates my engine and gets rid of knocks. Alternatively you could use your own shit, just be careful not burn your ass on the rocker covers
