have you recently had any belts changed, common problem is over-tension on the belts causing them to squeal and rapidly wears them down. What makes you think it's the fan belt? If it hasn't been done recently could well be a tensioner needs replacing..

You can adjust the alternator by losening the bottom bolt underneath it. Then the one on top of it. Then just wind the bolt in front of it in or out to tension or slacken it off. Then do the two first bolts back up again.

If youre not sure if its your alternator or timing belt then loosen the belt fully off and remove it. Then start the car. If the noise disapears then its the alternator belt.

Saxo's dont have fan belts, they are electric. Just get your spanners out and tighten the belt up as described above. You won't need to tension it much, to be honest my adjusting bolt has long gone and I just pulle dthe alternator towards me by hand while tightening up the mounting bolts. No slip even with high load (lights/heated screen/wipers/steroe on so it's fine).

The alternator belt is called the fan belt,,
Take the belt off the alternator and start the car,
if it goes it was that belt,

if it persists then check the tension in the cambelt,
you should be able to turn it about 45 degrees,
if you can turn it then you should check the direction on the belt,
look for arrows on the belt, they want to be pointing towards you,
if there not then take the belt off and put it on the right way ,

Keep me posted on your progress, hope you get it sorted
