Just wondered what peoples' views are on this. I feel that slow drivers do cause accidents as they cause unnecessary risks. For example my journey to work consists of a winding dangerous road that is a 60. The difference at what time i arrive at work can be between 5 and 15 mins difference because of people not goin 60. I think its down to people not knowing what the nationsal speed limit signs mean. Any thoughts?

Yeah, a police car doing about 50mph in the fast lane of the dual carriage way about a mile from my house for no reason at all almost caused someone to pile into the back of me last week, theres mixed views on it but yeah, slow driving causes accidents the same as extremly fast driving does.

Well its not that much of a winding road just no places to overtake because you cant see due to trees n wot not. Its not just there though, it seems to be all the time even on normal straight roads, that was jus an example

what if they dont know the road? then yes they will go slow and in winter conditions will be worse
but in some ways i agree with you - the people who do 30 in 60s and so on, which is mainly old people who must think that il be ok if i go slow i cant crash

Yeah i do agree with the winter conditions etc but i think its unfair and a bit selfish when conditions road etc are all fine and still people go slow, n in some cases will speed up when you overtake them. And even better the same people that go 40 in 60 zones will continue to go 40 when they reach a 30 i see this all the time

if you're stupid enough to take 'unnecessary risks' then you'll get what you deserve. there are so many different factors as to why someone might be driving slower than the limit of the road. as said, just because a road is a 60 limit doesn't mean that it's always safe to do 60 on it. however there are no excuses on motorways when people drive at 50 and under, these are people that clearly aren't confident enough to be on the road. and people who speed up when you overtake them are wankers and best avoided.

Yeah but thats not the point i'm making, like i say, all conditions fine, there is no reason to hold up 5 miles of traffic jus for the sake of it when the road is fine, most people are on the road to get somewhere and someone travelling slow in a 60 zone can greatly affect the time it takes to get to a destination "stupid" lol

the thing that bugs me about people driving slow is the old bast*** with the big f**k off volvo's, scoobys and jags and cars like that going 20mph on any road. whats the point in having such a powerfull car when they will never take it out of 2nd.

A winding DANGEROUS road. I think the answer is in the question here.
Posting a maximum speed limit does not make it mandatory, and I can think of many 60 MPH roads that would be impossible to navigate at such speeds.
If ever I am driving below the maximum speed limit and you find yourself behind me, consider one of the following possibilities:
1) My car may be experiencing mechanical difficulties and cannot go any faster.
2) I may have a fragile load and am driving cautiously to avoid damaging it.
3) I may be lost and unable to afford GPS.
4) I may be low on fuel.
5) You're so far up my backside you can see what I ate for breakfast and I think you should back off.
etc...

As for the question of why older people have powerful cars yet don't race them, why should they? They've probably worked hard for 30 years and always wanted a Volvo/Scooby/Jag - and good on them. I hope when I'm older I'll still be allowed to buy any car I choose without the age police arresting me.
My car is capable of doing over 100MPH easily but I never do. Is it a waste of a car? Should I get a moped instead?
It's not how much power you have, but how you wield it.

I must admit it isn't such a "winding dangerous road" i guess i just got a little carried away there with the emotion and what not. The point is, is that i can't help but feel a little frustrated when i need to get somewhere and someone is travelling slow for no reason. I do acknowledge though, that really i ought to set off earlier to allow such delays, just wondered what others' views were on the matter

1st of all why dont you overtake them...im sure ther must be sections of carrageway that are safe enough to overtake..if you read the road correctly this should be a safe and easy manoeuvre, if thats not possible then setting off earlier would be a good idea.
what would you do if you got stuck behind an hgv ?
now on a single carriageway the national speed limit sign for certain hgv's means 40mph, so remember its not mandatory that you have got to do the 60mph for single carriage and 70mph for dual carriageway, its a speed limit sign not a minimum speed sign.
personally in my experiance the older generation do know what a national speed LIMIT sign means they choose to drive at a speed they feel safe and confident at and within there limits of driving unlike the younger generation (im not painting everyone with the same brush here lol )

its best to just chill out and let them get on with it until you can find a safe place to pass.
otherwise you may cause an accident and it will be you that pays the price.
i know its annoying when you are late for work etc, but you dont always have to do the speed limit.
lol, thats sounds weird coming from me

I dont think i'll be hitting 70mph on a motorway to soon, only been on it once & i didnt feel very comfortable, but i wouldnt lane hog & speed up when other people are trying to overtake me.
The people that speed up when you overtake them mostly seem to be the van drivers, my dad does this & it pisses me off, but people do it to him aswell.
I was doing my pass plus the other week & i tried overtaking a van at 70mph & we were side by side, he backed off a bit then speeded up, i so felt like shouting the odds off & pipping my horn, but i was on my pass plus so couldnt.
The old people uasually go slow as back in the days when they passed there tests the speed limits were tottaly different from today, so they just stick to the speed limits they had like 40 years ago.
If i were to go to an area i dont know, or on a road i dont know then i would go quite slow, 1, because i dont know the roads & 2, because sometimes there isnt any speed limit signs & you just have to guess what they are.

when taking your driving test you will fail if you dont go the limit of that road at some point its a confidence thing the tester needs to know you are capable of going that speed, basicaly what you do and how you drive after you pass is up to you and to be honest the speed limit is max 70 if the government wanted theyd be well in their rights to put limmiters on cars thank god they dont tho! and if you didnt overtake the car how do you know it was an old person in the first place? could be some one just passed not yet confident in the roads of the world sure at some point weve all been there!!
